I’ve been lurking for a while, but just got engaged this week so thought I’d finally join in the conversation!
My SO had got the ring that day, and as we were sitting in the garden reading before bed, he suddenly ran off and came back with the ring, and asked me to marry him then and there! He was so nervous and excited at the same time, and I couldn’t believe it was real! (Though we had discussed it at length, so I knew it would happen soon) Afterwards he was a bit sad that he had “ruined it” because he had planned something else more traditional, but I thought it was perfect just the way it was <3
So I was wondering, who else out there had a similar sponteous or home proposal? I’d love to hear about it 🙂

Aww, that’s lovely and incredibly sweet that he was so excited to ask he couldn’t wait. Congrats. My proposal was while we were on holiday not at home, but I just wanted to say how lovely I think that was.

Thank you Michelle! I thought it was lovely. We haven’t told many people yet as we are seeing our families at the weekend and wanted to tell them in person, I’m going a bit crazy not being able to talk about it!!
A holiday proposal sounds beautiful, so romantic <3

Mine wasn’t spontaneous, but it was at home (well his house at the time). I was aggravated with him that day because he was being sort of shady when I would text him to see what he was up to. I kind of had a feeling he would propose that day, so the sudden aloofness threw me off. I went over to his house in the late afternoon and when I opened the door the lights were off except for candles all over the living room and dining room and a trail of rose petals leading me to the back of the house where he was waiting for me. He had also cooked dinner for us that night after the proposal. He isn’t much for huge gestures so this proposal was a big deal for both of us. It was perfect.

Congrats!! I love home proposals. It was Christmas-time for us and DH had been carrying the ring in his pocket all day as we were seeing the Christmas-sights around the city. He never found “the right time” because there are always so many damn people around in big cities and we’re pretty private people, haha. He went out to get dinner. Came back with a huge bouquet of flowers, a little velvet box, got down on one knee and asked me to marry him.

I knew the proposal was coming and after 8 years together it was hardly a surprise but thought it was going to be another month or two. We were at home in our living room having a nice conversation about our relationship and how excited we are about our future, and he asked me to get up and give him a hug, and I thought that was odd but sweet. When he immediately went down on one knee I was very surprised and only remember him saying, “lovesgrowshere, will you marry me” and the look in his eyes. He said my tears started almost immediately once I realized what was happening and all I could do was nod. He did have a plan in place for about two months later but decided he couldn’t wait any more and the moment felt right. My hands were shaking most of the evening from the excitement. I wouldn’t change anything about my proposal story and the best part is now I get to marry my best friend!

that sounds perfect 😍 sometimes the most intimate ones seem to be the biggest element of surprise!!
I love that, it reminds me a little of Monica and Chandler in friends with all the candles. So romantic!
it’s hard to find a moment when there are people around!! We’re really private too, especially me. I really appreciated it being just us. So cute he was carrying it around all day 😀
I can totally identify with the realisation dawning and the shaking, I imagined it so many times and then I was just like, OMG it’s happening it’s happening is this real?! Still can’t quite believe it!
