When I first got engaged (a month ago) I was so confident and happy about it. I knew I would find the perfect dress for me and move on with the other wedding plans. Until… my sisters and other family started saying, “You’re engaged now, so it’s time to lose some weight.” Not “We’re so happy for you” “We wish you both many blessings”…it’s all about how I’m basically not small enough to be a bride. My sister (who is always skinny even though she eats like a football player) pretty much acts like I’m unworthy of a wedding dress. But you want to know the truth? I didn’t even want a traditional white wedding dress until everyone started getting into my ears making me feel like this is the goal I should be damn near killing myself to obtain. But that’s it, I’m done. NO MORE WEDDING DRESSES! I actually want a blue dress, a blue evening gown to be exact. That’s what fits my personality and I don’t have to fit anyone else’s standard of what a bride should be. I’m no longer going to try to make myself into a bride, because guess what? I AM A BRIDE!!! Belly, boobs, booty, ALL OF IT! I’ve always been beautiful and no one is going to make me feel like I’m less of a woman and deserve less excitement and happiness because I’m not a certain size. I’m getting married to the man I love who also loves me with all of his heart and soul, and I’m excited about it dammit. No more letting the people who are supposed to love and care about me, make this time miserable for me. I am gorgeous, size 18 and all, anyone who wants to pretend not to see it clearly has issues. I’M GETTIN MARRIED YA’LL!!! 😀

Preach It! W()()T!!! I don’t feel the need to drop a pound unless I feel the need to. If you love your body, you’re doing better than the majority of women!

Congrats on getting a healthy attitude about what your nayslayers are spouting. I have seen many pics of beautiful full-figured brides and as we ALL know, beauty comes in all shapes and colors. Pick the dress of your dreams and wear it with pride.
WHen they attempt to tell you how to run your wedding – tell ’em to put a sock in it – this is YOUR wedding – they can plan THEIR weddings any way they want!

Woo-hoo! I love reading comments like this (sadly few and far between) where women decide to love their bodies, as they are. So much of weddings seem to be about the “show” and how everything will look to other people or in photos – from the decorations//cake/dress, and the woman’s own body! So you’re totally putting the focus back where it should be – not an image of (temporary) perfection, but a celebration of love – of your relationship, and love of yourself!

Isn’t it odd that both people close to you and random strangers when they hear you are getting married think it’s suddenly OK to enquire about how quickly you’re losing weight?! I haven’t dieted, and my dress isn’t a traditional wedding dress either – I had a dress made to flatter my current figure – I want to look like me on my wedding day!
When you find that blue dress, I want to see pics!
