……I just got told I’m deploying within a few weeks. I feel so sad. It was so much fun planning and all we were waiting for was picking the date… but I had to figure out when I was deploying for next year so we could have a wedding before I left.
Because of the short notice, my SO told me he had to order the e-ring tonight so it’s here before I leave (hopefully, because I might have to leave sooner). He said he was sorry for ruining the surprise but he was bad at keeping secrets (made me smile because he is).
I wanted that feeling of being proposed to be a happy one. But all that will be on my mind will be being gone for a year and missing his face. I wanted him to not be rushed. I wanted it to be a surprise. I wanted the timing to be right for him. I wanted to get e-pics. I wanted to be with my best friend for one more year until I had to go. He said we can have a big, beautiful wedding when I get back. (I’m thinking to myself, I need to get my dress 6 months before the wedding, and do multiple fittings! When am I suppose to say yes to the dress with my closest friends and family and do wedding things with the girls! How am I suppose to see the venue and meet with the caterers, trying cakes, and DIYS! ahhhh)

I’m so sorry for the deployment and the not so suprise proposal. I hope that he makes it super special anyway.
You can still plan even when being deployed. You just might have to cut down on the DIYs (for me they were just a stress anyway). I worked 70 hour days for the 5 months leading up to my wedding. It does mean giving up on some things but you can still have a great wedding. You might want to consider a planner because they can take care of the little things and it helps you to focus on the important things with the limited phone time you have.

@bizzybee:I’m so sorry.
However, i’ve heard from deployed friends that the planning makes the deployment go by faster.
Also, if you want to get married *right away* when you get back, you can buy a dress off the rack, or get a sample and have it altered. Then you don’t have to wait that long after you return to get married.
And the wedding will be beautiful.

I only got my dress in May and had it altered last week. Getting married in two weeks. You don’t need a lot of time to plan, everything is going to work out! Be safe!

I just posted a similar thread yesterday. Not quite the same, but similar. I understand 🙁 and your situation is so much harder! I don’t have a lot of advice, but I’m here if you ever need to talk!! It’ll still be special!:)
