I’m mostly done at this point. All I have left is my Province’s health care card and passport.

However, I can totally relate! I went to go change my name on my drivers licence. I get home at 5:15pm and the Registry closes at 6:00pm so I had to do some major rushing to get there! Anyway, I get all my stuff, hop in the car, get there only to find out I forgot our marriage licence at home. UUUUUUGHHHHHH. So I drove all the way out their for NOTHING, and I couldn’t even drive home and come back, so I had to wait until the next day.

Yup, I just got my new lisence this morning and got my health card and credit card last week.  I have yet to apply for a new SIN card, though and won’t change my passport ’til it expires.  It’s weird starting to see my DH’s last name behind my name…

@.twist.:  I went to change my lisence and had a photo-copy of my marriage lisence instead of the real thing… they wouldn’t accept and told me to come back with the real thing.  I guess identity-theft/fraud really is getting out of control.

I’m trying to figure out all the DMV stuff… license, title, registration. I’ve had my social security card, and my office changed all the bank and health stuff. So. Time. Consuming.

FYI, when I changed my name back to my maiden name (this is my encore weddnig) the DMV hooks up electronically to the SSA and they were able to see that I had changed my name in their system without having the actual card saying so. 🙂

@CherryWaves:  when did you get your health care card? I’ve filled the damn forms out twice. The first time it took them 2 months to get back to me and tell me they needed more information, and the second time was probably a little over a month ago and I still haven’t heard back from them!!! They have been the absolute most difficult part of my name change.

ETA: oops! forgot this part. Never know who will take a photocopy and who won’t. Some places did for me and others wouldn’t. what a pain!

I’m almost done. Just have my SIN and Passport left. My passport expires in July so i guess it’s almost time to change it anyways. Maybe if I do it will inspire my husband to take me on a trip somewhere!

Ha, oh this is so fun. When I went to the DMV, (after nagging Darling Husband incessantly to go with me!) I forgot my damn passport. Sooooooooooooo pissed. And of course, they closed in like 20 minutes, so I had to wait until the next week to do it.

Oh, and when I recently got a new credit card, when I activated it, I asked to have my name changed (offer came to my maiden name) and when they shipped the new card, it was EXACTLY THE SAME. Took a total of three times with customer service, and three cards to get it right. Sigh. I think we should all be Icelandish and make the men take our name.

I still need to get my passport done……

I didn’t even need the social security card at the DMV.  Just my marriage license and my previous drivers license.

@.twist.:  I contacted MB Health and all I needed to do was email them saying that I wanted to change my address and name and gave both mine and my DH’s registration numbers and our ID numbers.  They emailed me back a week later saying they sent out the new cards.  No problems with them, except they didn’t put us under one registration number so I might get that changed.  Can you just go to the office and talk to them directly?

@CherryWaves:  What you did, is what I did the first time and they asked for a copy of our marriage cert. and Darling Husband needed to sign the papers as well as myself. So i had to re-do it all. I’m sure I could go down to their offices… I guess I don’t understand why mailing it has been such a hassle.

I haven’t even begun the name change yet.  I travel quite a bit out of country so I don’t want to risk not having my passport back in time with my new name on it.  I’m going to wait until mid-April when we have a bit of a break between out of country trips.  Gives me time to get used to my new last name, which I have not even started using yet, except on Facbeook where it’s hyphenated…I can’t get used to it!!

weird. i didn’t have to have my new SS card with me at the DMV to change my name. i just had to bring a certified copy of my marriage license. in fact, my SS office asked me for my new DL when i was at their office. good thing i went to DMV first! i guess it’s different in other states!

I didn’t need my social security card at the DMV either. I accidentally went there before I went to the Social Security office and everything worked out fine. I brought my current license, filled out the paper work and showed them the marriage certifcate and it was fine.
