He does seem like a jerk, but I can also see where he’s coming from.. that’s pretty much the same thing I told my mother – I wanted an “actual” wedding. That doesn’t mean that couples who do the courthouse thing didn’t have a wedding.. I just mean.. a wedding with a lovely sit down dinner, reception, dancing, bouquet toss, ect. Most of the people in my family are in a rush to get married and just do courthouse or backyard style.. I wanted something more.

Our version of a “wedding” may differ from other peoples, and that’s okay!

He could have worded it a little better, though.

@jenilynevette:  Wanting something more extravagant is totally fine and your perogative. But the point here is that the part of a wedding that matters is the marriage. At the end of the day, the rest is just icing. Her brother’s implication that hers wasn’t “real” because it was at a courthouse or not extravagant with all the things he considers tradition is just misguided and rude.
