I work in an office of men. There is one other female, the office manager.
The guys all notice if the other gets a haircut – always, and they all always comment.I find it hilarious that they make a big deal out of it.
On the flip side, I dyed my hair last night – it’s dramatically different than what it was before. No one has said a word. The office manager got a pretty major haircut a few weeks ago, no one (besides me) commented. The only reason I find it funny no one has said a word is that they make such a big deal when the guys get their hair cut. (they are also the type of people to tell you if they think something looks crazy, they’ve commented previously when I’ve worn a new shade of lipstick…)
I just find it amusing.
Anyone else notice things like this ?

MsGinkgo: they are probably scared of being sued for sexual harrassment.

MsGinkgo: my Fiance works with almost all men. From the stories he tells, it sounds like they’re just a bunch of hens gossiping all the time and stirring up work drama. They like to pretend that type of stuff is a woman’s thing, but they’re worse!

j_jaye: you would think so, but when it comes to anything else they have no problem making comments – it’s so weird. They will comment on clothes, makeup, personal lives – it’s just hair that they seem to ignore with the 2 of us.

I also work with all men, other than the receptionist. The receptionist is about 70 lol and has worked here for over 3 years, and I’ve only been here for about 5 months, the rest of them have been working together for over 7 years.
Anyway, I think in my case, we haven’t reached that level of comfort where the guys feel like they can comment on my appearance. I’m often dying my hair, getting ombre done, cutting it…probably at least 4 times since I’ve worked here. Not a word! They also aren’t really interested in getting to know me, and are usually pretty busy working, so there isn’t a lot of time to chat which is cool.
I’m not used to it though! At my last job, there was a group of about 15-20 of us that would hang out all the time, during and after work. It was so much fun! And of course people would comment on new hairstyles, colours, etc. Ask about your weekends, talk about your family…I miss it!

MsGinkgo: I work with basically all men and from what I can tell, and what some have told me, is basically what j_jaye: said. They don’t want to say anything that can be misconstrued so they don’t say anything at all.
If they comment on other things, just not your hair, then maybe they actually didn’t notice. When the guys around here comment on each other’s hair cuts it’s usually not a compliment but more like teasing lol
