haha I think it depends on where you are from, it is a big no no in america. My Dad’s family is from the carribean and they wear white to weddings. You aren’t supposed to wear mourning colors so no purple, red, or black

I was never that big on the “no white” rule, in the sense that to me, the style of the dress makes a biiiiig difference. I was at a wedding in which a female guest wore a white suit and it looked great–in no way “in competition” with the bride.

It’s actually an even bigger faux pas to wear white to an asian wedding, because it is what you wear for mourning.

No yellow in Jewish weddings? I’ve never heard that one…I was at one with a grey and yellow theme (even grey and yellow kippahs).

@HollyCJ:  Agreed!! I definitely am interested to know the potential origins and/or if this is something to be aware of!

ETA: My Dad’s family is Jewish and I’ve been to a few Jewish weddings but I cannot for the life of me remember anything about color taboos…otherwise I would gladly help!

Sometimes the woman in the white dress is being a brat.  Ha ha! I have been married almost 20 years, and I still remember my mother-in-law asking me what color dress she should buy for our wedding.  I told her that she could wear any color that made her happy except white.  She bought a white lace dress.  That was my first sign she was not going to be an easy person to love, but 20 years later, we have a pretty good relationship.
