Hey Bees,
I was just wondering if anyone else has IBS and is pregnant? How have you been managing your symptoms?
I’ve had IBS for quite sometime, so I’m used to all the things that it brings…however, I have found that pregnancy seems to make some symptoms (ie, (TMI) constipation) much worse. I also wonder if the trapped gas, etc is the source of much of the cramping that I’ve been having. (I know lots of you have had 1st trimester cramps so maybe that is all that it is.)
Anyway, just wondered what others’ experiences have been!

Alright so i am not pregant nor have ever been but i do have IBS and when people ask me what it feels like i tell them its like period cramps in your intestines, sometimes around ‘that’ time of the month i cannot tell if i am having an IBS flair up and need to go to the bathroom ASAP -i have the everything runs right through me when stressed version of IBS 🙁 – or if its just cramps from my period. Needless to say i am just as currious as you! I can only imagine things will get more hard to figure out when i get pregant. lol Good luck!

I’ve had IBS for about a decade and somehow pregnancy has made thing MUCH better. First trimester was a little rough in that department, but so far my second tri has been fantastic. I’m not sure how you manage your IBS, but peppermint is the only thing that has ever helped me (i’ve tried everything), so during my first tri I sucked on a lot of peppermint candies and had peppermint tea pretty often. I also take gas-x, but during the first tri I limited how often I took it (no more than once a day).

@jesstagirl: Wow, no one has EVER told me about the peppermint! I am so excited to try this! Thank you! I’ve tried several things, the most successful being probiotics…but it takes a while for them to be effective. I’m going to get some peppermint stuff asap.
@MrsHoneyC: I have a lot of that stress related stuff too..particularly if I have gotten VERY upset. I had a job that I HATED a few years ago and I would spend probably an hour in the bathroom every morning. It was terrible!

@tnbellebee: Oh, I hope it helps! My doctor never, ever mentioned it to me, so I kept trying all sorts of different remedies and prescriptions. Then, I was at a doctors office and the only magazine there was to read was a Men’s Health, and inside was an article about men and IBS and how a lot of them use peppermint to help the symptoms. Low and behold, it’s the only thing that works for me! I actually get these pills and take them as needed…haven’t used any prescriptions for probably about five years now! Good luck 🙂 http://www.amazon.com/Natures-Way-Pepogest-Peppermint-softgels/dp/B00016AHRY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1351439963&sr=8-1&keywords=peppogest

@LilacViolet: hey no worries! its fairly common, their is a diarreah version, a constipation version and some people get both! Lots of great information online about it. IBS stands for irritable Bowel syndrome.

@LilacViolet: IBS is VERY common. I have the kind with diarrhea and constipation. I was so relieved when my Dr. told me that I had it because I was worried that something was crazy wrong with me.
