Commercial ice cream products are pasteurized so you are not eating raw eggs.

@Peony007:  Hey! I make homemade ice cream all the time, and the egg yolks are never raw. You always cook them into a custard that you then chill an freeze. So I think you are fine 🙂

Even if you do make homemade ice cream with raw egg, the risk is incredibly tiny. The “raw eggs are bad” thing is so overblown! The actual contamination rate of raw eggs with salmonella is 1 in 30,000; which with average egg consumption means you might come across a contaminated egg ONCE EVERY 42 YEARS.

I was reading the list of things to avoid while pregnant yesterday and it seemed ridiculous some of it. The chances are soooo low. Especially if you buy certain products from trusted sources (IE you know the farm when it comes to eggs or rare beef etc)

This makes me feel better.
