Hello pregnant bees!
I’m not pregnant, and won’t be for a while, but I just had an idea about how to pick a baby name and I HAD to share it with someone, and who else than other bees?! Anyone else would think I’m crazy!
When you’ve gotten down to just a few names and are trying to decide between them, you should use them when ordering coffee or putting your name down on a restaurant list or getting take-out food (you get the idea). Then, when the person calls the name out, you’ll get a feel for how it sounds said by another person in a natural setting, if they can spell it alright, how they pronounce it, if you’d like being called that… Just an idea, hope it helps someone out there!

That is actually really clever! I’m not pregnant yet but hope to be in the next year, I think if we can’t decide on a name we will try that out! 🙂

Clever idea! I will have to try that one day!

LoveMyBrit: I like that! Wish my mom would have thought of that when she named me. I have a common name, but it’s always being misspelled or pronounced wrong because people mishear. It gets old.

LoveMyBrit: me and my husband totally did this a few weeks ago! We had already decided on our name but decided to test drive it when putting our name in at a restaurant. It was quite thrilling waiting for them to call the name out 🙂 They pronounced it right but missed one letter in the spelling.. We figured, good enough!! Lol

Glad you all like the idea! I actually got it while watching this comedy video about starbucks, which is pretty enjoyable.
mrs.joiner: Oof, yeah, that’s not fun. It’s not the same, but people mispronounce my last name ALL the time, so I usually just nod and smile, like at the grocery store when it doesn’t matter if they say it correctly. But first names are harder, because generally people do need to know those!!
mariwithani: That’s great! I love that you tried it (obviously not because of my post, but I love that it works). Yeah, one letter off is definitely good enough, especially if they pronounced it correctly! Share the name with us? Or are you keeping it secret for now?

My best friend did this before having her first son. Her Darling Husband used the name at Starbucks.

LoveMyBrit: People mispell my last name because they think of the preacher Thomas Joyner. I’m always like “I” it’s spelled with an “I.” J-O-I-N-E-R like the word.

That’s a pretty good idea.
