Hi, im new here looking into engagement rings & loose diamonds.
I would like to purchase a loose diamond but have heard that if it is ideal cut the grading doesnt have to be high as it is cut to give off maximum brilliance.
So i was looking at kay.com at those “Tolkowsky” Ideal cut diamonds and saw their specs, they are as follows:
color: H I
and cut obviously is ideal.
So do any of you bees for any chance have a diamond with this grading or similar & can i see some ideal cut diamonds to compare.
Also what are your thoughts on this as i havent really gone to compare loose stones!

If you have sidestones that you will be mounting this with, you’ll want to check the grades on those. You don’t want to put this H/I loose stone next to F/G sidestones, it may look yellow.
SI1 is probably as low (relative term) as I would go, but I wouldn’t bother going any better than VVS2.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen a regular ideal cut next to a Tolkowsky ideal cut diamond, so I couldn’t tell you if there was a great deal of difference. But I can’t help but feel (based on absolutely nothing) that a Tolkowsky ideal may not be that much more awesome than a regular ideal cut. Like a VVS2 vs VVS1 diamond. To the eye, there is not very much difference.
