@MissTempest:

You can search all Craigslist sites at once by going to http://www.adhuntr.com/

enter your search term    card catalogue

on the first page of results you can narrow your search to Canada (or not if you aew willing to import from the USA)

I love all the ideas in this post! I am also having a book themed wedding. So far we are making book flowers for bouquets etc., making a ring box out of a hollowed out book, book names instead of table numbers, and a book themed cake. I am trying to decide if I want to incorprate books into other areas, like the centerpieces or the card box/guest book, but I am not sure if there will come a point where I am over doing the theme.

I was worried at first about tearing up books, and I have received some negative comments about it. I am trying to use mostly books that already have pages missing (finding them at yard sales and thrift stores) or books that seem out of date.

As a professional writer, it makes me cringe whenever people cut up or destroy a book. If you choose to do any of these projects that involve cutting up a book, please only use books that are already missing pages or are in otherwise poor condition.

Note: I don’t mean old books. Old does not mean unwanted or in poor condition. Some of those older books that you find at swap meets or antique fairs can be first editions or valuable books to a collector (the seller may just not know their value). I know someone who found a first edition copy of The Maltese Falcon at an antique fair. For $2.00. No joke. Today, that first edition is worth $136,000.

Our wedding was in a library, so of course we had to have some book elements! The STDs were library slips: http://www.etsy.com/listing/71118832/library-card-save-the-date?ref=shop_home_active

We made book table numbers, very easy and one of our only DIYs…and we made the escort cards (you can kinda see it in front of the book) using sheet music since it was a music library, but you could use book pages instead!

Edit: The books we used for the table numbers were old textbooks that were about to be thrown out (my mom is a professor and saw them about to throw them out and rescued them to be repurposed…textbooks are obsolete once there’s a new edition so they’re usually thrown out by the schools…also I work in publishing and have no problem with cutting up books for projects as long as you’re sure it’s not a first edition or anything lol. Go buy 2 copies, one for your shelf and one for your project, you’ve give then author twice the money, ain’t nothin’ wrong with that! haha)

We are having a book theme too!!!!

We are not having books everywhere but are having centerpieces with books incorporated. All of the books have love themes. I would totally sell you the books when we were done but I am sure shipping would be OUTRAGEOUS. Our cardbox is a DIY it was totally afforable I went to Michaels and got a bunch of  book boxes and we are going to do this:

We will probably have a book for the ring bearer to carry. I am still working on programs.

I am having a book themed wedding too, so many of the ideas I have seen online involve ripping up books or hollowed out books which I HATE (have loved books since I was born, and have a degree in English Literature & Writing) so I won’t be using any of those! However Fiance and I will be having personalized bookmarks as escort cards (which will double as favours), and tables named after books, looking up ideas the other day I found a bride who did the same thing! She placed the escort cards in the books the tables were named after:

@CelticBeachBride:  +1 Or perhaps use things that are made to look like books but were never books in the first place.

@MrsBee2B:  Those two last images (using pages from books as table runners) makes me want to cry! No books will be harmed in the making of my wedding.

@Jacqui90:  Absolutely! I’m a fan of any book themed wedding ideas that don’t involve cutting up a book. As miss narwhal pointed out, Michaels sells book boxes, which would make excellent centerpiece elements. You could even fill one with little pieces of candy for the guests (my cousin did this at his wedding and it was a big surprise and went over very well).

And I LOVE your personalized bookmark escort card/favor idea, By The Way. Very cool!

@CelticBeachBride:  Thanks 🙂 Book boxes are a great idea (as long as they are boxes made to look like books) I love the card box idea 🙂

@Jacqui90 posted. I’m doing bookmarks for escort cards, so I’m now thinking I’ll use that idea. My godmother has a set of old Encyclopidias, so I might use those to alphabetize the cards so people can find them more easily!
