@MissTempest:  Not sure if this has been mentioned, but maybe you could make the escort cards look like those old school check-out slips inside the book covers at libraries? And place them inside a card catalog!

The girl from that Four Weddings episode people have referred to is actually a really regular poster on reddit.com/r/weddingplanning and has posted a ton of really thorough pictures of her book-themed elements and DIY projects.

Check these out: one, two, and three, or browse her username (Cinnamontwisties) for more.

(ETA: if you’re not familiar with reddit, make sure you click the title at the top of the page that links to the actual photo album – there are a ton of pictures!)

@Becs:  I love the stacks of books at the end of the aisle, beautiful. She had the same colours as I am having, blue and purple ๐Ÿ™‚ She did a great job!

@MissTempest:  Shoes made with book pages. ๐Ÿ™‚ I made mine using HP.

Book pages were used throughout our wedding, also, but it wasn’t a theme, exactly. Just a woven detail.

And those shoes work great in pretty much any color. I’ve done them in red, blue (several brides’ “something blue”, purple, pink and unpainted (where it’s the color of the pages themselves).

(That’s the couple’s wedding date.)

The only books I’ve ever used have been Harry Potter, but that obviously not ALL that can be used. I’ve even done them with printer paper, images and elements printed from my own printer. It’s a great way to include books all around!

@Jacqui90:  Why is it so painful to cut up a book? I adore books, but I don’t get the “books are sacred and musn’t be written in or cut up” mentality that a lot of people have. I would absolutely never destroy a book that has a history, but if it’s a book I bought specifically to use for a project, I have no emotional attachment to it. Why is it so wrong?

@ellisrobertson:  I just can’t imagine doing it, just painful for me, I don’t know why, I guess I see them as ‘friends’ in a way, if that makes sense. I would always have books to escape from everyday life if I was feeling sad or angry. However I would have no problem cutting up/destroying an economics textbook!

ETA: And I have no problems with printing the pages off the computer and cutting them up, it is just the idea of destroying the actual books that I can’t bear.

@Jacqui90:  lol, fair enough. That’s why I would never, ever be able to cut up my own books. But, like I said, buying a book specifically as an art supply, rather than coming to terms with sacrficing one of my beloved books in the house, I was surprisingly okay with it the very first time I did it. Now, I buy a new book with every shoe order and it’s just part of the process. They’re not my books. They’re just a collection of pages that I need and they happen to be bound, rather than loose.

Also, I hear you on the econ text. I can think of several textbooks I wouldn’t mind torturing.

@ellisrobertson:  The shoes look amazing and I love the idea ๐Ÿ™‚ If I can get the text of Pride and Prejudice on my computer I might just do the same sort of thing, except computer printed pages. I could never bear to tear up Pride and Prejudice even if it was just a cheap copy bought as an art project.

@Gribberama:  We used a library card style invitation from Minted. It was a bit pricey, but worth it. (See picture below) If I could go back and had more time, I would have made them myself by ordering library cards in bulk and then typing/printing them myself.
