My husband and I are going to take an extra long weekend in April to spend time together before the baby. We decided not to travel anywhere, we both kind of want to stick around. I’ve been tired and the idea of a flight somewhere is not appealing. But we still want to plan special days/evenings to enjoy together. Anyone have any ideas as to how to make it feel special even though we wont be going far? we are thinking of going out for a fancy dinner one night, and possibly to the spa one day.

Are you wanting to do a staycation or something within driving distance? It can be fun to do touristy things as a local. Suggestions might be more tailored to you if you gave an idea of where you live.

- Wedding: August 2013 - An amazing non-profit retreat
Not really a babymoon, but next weekend we’re taking an extra day off and going to a surfing village about a 3 hour drive away. We’re bringing a girlfriend and we figure it’s going to be the last time we can just pick up and go for awhile. It’ll just be special because we’ll all be there and doing what we love to do– poke around fun village shops, hang out in the pool, explore the beach, and my husband will go surf for a day. We do have a romantic weekend that was gifted to us for our wedding, but we can’t use it right now because it’s for a hot springs and it would be pointless to go right now if all I can do is dip my feet in 😛

ExpectingBee: It would be helpful to know what area you are located in.

I live in Alberta!
we are open to both a staycation or a little day trip/evening away to somewhere close by.

Maybe find a couple of places within a 1-2 he drive for a couple of little day trips. Check out restaurants and local attractions in your town and others nearby. Sleep in, don’t do chores or house projects. Get a new book and lounge and read. Spa Day sounds nice. Go out for breakfast during the week at the spots that get busy on the weekend. hit a happy hour or two for great apps. See if you can find a sporting event, theater show or even hit a movie matinee. zoo, aquarium, museums? Enjoy!

Well the obvious one for any albertan is to head to the mountains. Jasper or banff?

insignia: we were thinking of going to the mountains, but we actually only live an hour away from Banff and it is something we do a ton, so kinda thinking something different would be nice. We may still go one day for a picnic or something
