Assuming they dont have everything or a lot, how about a “bouquet” of cooking utensils. Spatula, spoon, masher, etc

I would go for practical if they dont have everything.

If they have a lot, then somehing more fun. Maybe a great potted plant or a welcome mat?

One of my friends made me a basket of stuff from bath and body works for the house.  Pump hand soaps for the bathroom and kitchen, wallflowers and refilss (like a plug-in), and candles.

I think when you move in you can easily forget about this stuff and it was nice to have things to put all over the house that left it smelling yummy

There was a post a few days ago on making jewel encrusted wine glasses. I made them, super easy (and inexpensive. I got 5 glasses for $3.50 @ marshalls and used my michaels coupons to get the beads) I packed them in a set of 4 with a bottle of wine and i’m good to go! – i also made margarita glasses…the concept could be applied to so many things!

How about some cheese knives and a serving plate? Then you can buy them some nice cheese to go with it.

Some of the other bee’s ideas are great. One of the things someone did for Darling Husband and me when we bought our first house was give us the items from the “House Blessing” from “It’s a Wonderful Life” with a card explaining them. It is cheesy, but meant a lot  and we all got the reference. I was so stressed from dealing with moving that it made me cry. Which made my friend cry. And left our husbands standing awkwardly.

The items are:

Bread –that this house may never know hunger

Salt–that life may always have flavor

Wine–that joy and prosperity may reign forever

Like I said, its kind of cheesy, but I think it can make a nice addition to a “real” present
