I am getting married June 12 2010 to a US Marine. We plan to get married in a little wooden country church in our hometown of Mississippi. Since he is wearing his dress blues I need ideas on colors that would match his uniform. Originaly I wanted to use the colors navy blue, red, and white but didn’t want it to come across as a patriotic wedding.. I am very proud of him and his career but do not want to focus our entire wedding around red white and blue but I do want to focus it around the Marines, another factor is i’m wanting our wedding to have an old hollywood feel, it’s alot to try to factor into one event but my dream is a vintage wedding! Any suggestions on the colors I could use and a general theme!!! haha any help would be appreciated… Thanks in advance

Hmm! I bet you could pull off something really amazing.
I’d probably just pick one color – navy blue or red – and use that as the main color with maybe some lighter or darker shades of the same color to tie it all together.
But what struck me when you said vintage Hollywood: I just know there are some old movies with the leading man in uniform. Do any come to mind? Maybe you could watch a few and use those for inspiration?
Good luck, and keep us posted with your ideas!

Aww. . i LOVE dress blues! How about you have a white dress with some subtle red accents. Also, dont forget about their fatigues/camo. Those have greens, browns and beiges. I think it would be cute if you maybe incorporated the marine insignia throught the wedding (EX: Invitations,Place cards, favors, etc) Also maybe to incorporate the old hollywood into. . you could have some vintage war posters around and incorporated throughout.
Here are some inspiration photos for ya

A friend of mine is having a dress blue wedding and we’re wearing long black dresses with gold sashes that match the braids on the officers arms. She had a tough time with this too.

I attended a Marine wedding about 6 months ago and the girls wore great short gold dresses – I think they were from Macy’s? The gold was a great pop of color against the groomsmen (all 3 were Marines). The bride also had a fun navy sash that we added to her dress for the reception.

My Fiancee and I are both in the Marines and getting married next year. He will be wearing his dress blues and the idea I had was to wear the traditional white dress with navy blue accents. The bridesmaids are also wearing navy blue dresses with a little bit of gold accents and carrying yellow flowers. There are a lot of things you can do with the colors that are provided in the dress blues. Dont shy away from the red white and blue though. The Marine dress blues are the only dress uniform in the military that have all 3 colors incorporated in them, embrace that.

Does it really have to be that matchy matchy? I’ve seen lots of people using palettes that combine navy blue and lemon yellow, or navy blue and fushia and I think they look very nice.

Hi,
If you are looking to do something vintage for your wedding. I have vintage stamps that might fit in with the patriotic theme. They are red, white, and/or blue. Please let me know,if you are interested.

I’m planning on a dark blue wedding with white and pale yellow. I’m also marrying a Marine and I don’t want everything to be Marine Corp in the wedding, but I do want to incorporate it some how. 🙂
For vintage weddings You could go with a rich navy blue, deep red, and white.
you can also get some ideas for weddings themes at cedarwoodweddings.com 🙂
