Hi everyone! I am new to weddingbee but I have been reading the posts for a while now! My mom and Future Mother-In-Law are throwing me a shower in two weeks. It’s going to be a small group, maybe 15 people. It’s going to be 3-4 people in their 20’s (my bridesmaids!) and then everyone else is 50+. Does anyone have any good ideas for keeping energy high? Everyone is my FH’s aunts, grandmas, and my mom’s friends, so honestly I’m not super close to very many of them. Good games for older ladies or something?

Don’t worry about keeping energy up. Sit around, have a glass of wine, chat, open gifts, and let them get out of there within a few hours. They’ll all appreciate the time with you young ones more than a bunch of silly games, and everyone appreciates a short’n’sweet bridal shower.

riley23: Thanks! It’s actually from 2-4 so it will be really quick!

I’m actually 57.5 and I’ve been to my fair share of bridal showers. I honestly can’t remember participating – by choice – in any games, at those showers. I’d rather have adequate food (based on the time of day) and good conversation.

emilythehutt: my experience is different. It really depends how they usually interact normally, i found that older ladies like to play cheesy game which they could laugh really hard. I mean how do they normally react? Do they always laugh and goof around during gatherings?

Good food and conversation is your best bet.

You could get a Karaoke machine with songs from their era.
Play Bingo with cards you make yourself using movies, songs, famous people or events etc from past decades instead of numbers.
As the guests are older, they are also likely more experienced cooks. You can ask each woman to bring a recipe for the bride. To go along with that, you can play a game where they have to identify the spice. Place various spices and herbs in little bowls, blindfold the guest, and they have to guess the spice by smell alone.
