I need your creative juices! I haven’t decided what to use as a card holder at the reception (bird cage, mailbox, hat box, trunk…I just don’t know!). I just got a tip from a bride that used our venue a few weeks ago that they had wedding crashers and several gifts went missing. How awful, right?
We asked our guests not to bring gifts to the wedding as we live thousands of miles away, so I’m mostly worried about cards. We plan to have someone move the cards/gifts to a safe location about 30 minutes into the reception but I’m still a little concerned. What type of card holder would prevent theft the best? (And still look cute, of course!)

Just curious, but how did you mention to your guests not to bring gifts? We also live 1,500 miles away and don’t have any way to get gifts home other than to have our parents ship them after the wedding. (Sorry this wasn’t on topic, but I’d love to know!)

@jesstagirl – we put it our wedding website on the gift registry page and we put our website on our Save The Dates and our Directions card in the invitation. Then I asked all of our bridal party and my parents to spread the word. We’ll see in a few weeks how well that worked but we’ve already gotten quite a few gifts in the mail so I’m hopeful that people picked up on it.

I know you can buy boxes online that have locks on them. That would probably be the best option, as they’d have to full-on steal the box to get away with them!

Could you have a family member (like an aunt, uncle, or extended cousin) play box keeper for the evening until you put it away? That way you could wait for more than 30 minutes (sometimes I don’t even make it to my seat in 30 minutes, much less to the gift table) and make sure everyone has had a chance to put theirs in without having to worry about someone taking the whole thing or individual cards!

I saved all different sized boxes, took the largest one and cut a slit in it. Wrapped them all in unique wrapping paper, and stacked and glued them on each other to look like a pile of gifts. It came out beautiful and it cost me lik 8 bucks to make.

I followed the inspiration posted in this thread. I used various amazon/shipping boxes to make mine so most of them are recycled material covered with fabric. In order to get the cards from this box, one would have to break open the destroy the box in the process. I believe that’s kind of hard for a thief to do. However, it still wouldn’t prevent him/her to simply carry the whole box out of the reception, although it may not look inconspicuous due to the cumberson size. Hopefully, that’s deterrant enough.

I think the big size and having someone keep an eye it will be a deterant. You could also put it in a place that is hard to get to/away from without a lot of people seeing.
I have heard that venue staff can be the culprits and have plans for how to distract and take cards at a time that no will notice.
