We’re getting our engagement pictures taken this Saturday morning in DC. I’m looking for some great ideas for specific spots to go for some fun, creative shots — right now the plan is to meet up early (7:30 — hoping to avoid crowds!) in Georgetown and get a few there, then head over to the National Mall for some shots around the various memorials. Has anyone done engagement pics downtown and will you share your tips/favorites with me?

@lindseymagen: If you can make it out to Old Town Alexandria, it’s really cute there. Meet up behind the Torpedo Factory Art Center at the waterfront. There are a lot of great places around there! You’d have the bridge as a backdrop, get shots up on the pier. There’s a couple of little boardwalks that goes out to a gazebo looking place above the water (can’t think of what you call them). If you go into the town, it’s all old style and they have a trolley out there. I think it’s King Street. That’s a great area because it has so much character! Good luck and have a great time!!

as you know its tourist season so it might be crowded even early but worth it.

Check out my e-pics in DC and Old Town Alexandria: http://boards.weddingbee.com/topic/my-engagement-pics-tons-of-pics
We started at around 7:30, and left the Mall around 8:30 — by then it was already TOO crowded. There were other places we wanted to take pictures at, but we just couldn’t deal with the amount of people there.
I’d try to hit the Mall before hitting GTown, since the tourists don’t really flock into GTown as much.

- Wedding: June 2010 - Indiana Memorial Union
I think U Street (bens chili bowl perhaps?)/Adams Morgan has more DC flavor, gallery place could be interesting with the Chinatown gate if you like that (not to mention the crazy crosswalk!), Union Station could be cool as someone else mentioned.
I think I’m mainly picking places where we hang out. What neighborhood do you live? Where do you guys like to hang out in the city? I’d pick those spots since they actually mean something to you!

My fiance and I are getting our pictures taken in September, and are trying to find a place around DC as well! We actually live in Silver Spring, MD – I would love to do something in the city though. Tough decisions.. let me know what you decide!

tidal basin with the jeffersonian memorial in the background could be great!

If you are at the Mall, you could also try the National Botanical Gardens. You can get some really great pretty shots there, some of which look like you are at a tropical wonderland.

Who is your photog? If you are going to the memorials, make sure your photographer has all the proper permits. The guards are very strict.

be careful with the jefferson memorial- there is construction in that area that wouldn’t look so great in pictures!

Unfortunately, our photographer flaked on us! No call, no show, it’s three days later and we haven’t heard a peep from her despite calling, e-mailing, and texting. I’m not so happy! But at least we have more time to think about places (while we look for a new photographer…).
