Buffet is a great option for a smaller wedding.  Our guest list is 60-80 people and we’re doing the same.  Buffets will provide more variety and you don’t have to stress out about collecting meal preferences on the RSVP cards.  Another good idea for an intimate wedding is a reception at a nice restaurant.  I haven’t been to a restaurant reception personally, but I have friends who have and they said it was a lot of fun for a smaller wedding.

I agree that buffet might be easier for a smaller wedding.  It will probably be a more cost effective option as well.

I love buffets! I have never been to a small wedding… all over 150 guests. But I always like buffets better than plated.

Is there a certain theme for your wedding or a special restaurant to you and your fiance you could cater from?

A buffet sounds ideal for a wedding of that size. 🙂

I like buffets and most people can find something they like within them.

Ours is an intimate wedding.. and I mean VERY intimate haha. Its just Fiance and I, my mum, FI’s dad and FI’s 3 siblings.

We are going to a Chinese restaurant after our wedding. It isn’t a ‘serve yourself’ style buffet, but they have a huge menu and you can order as much food as you want for a set price, so its similar. As our party is so small, we’re just letting everyone order whatever they’d like to eat and drink from the menu.

Not very ‘wedding-y’ to most people but its perfect for us. 🙂

I have the same question, as I am having  a 30 person max reception… leaning toward a buffet because of the reasons posted above. But I still go back and forth so I’m definitely going to be following this thread 🙂

I have always loved buffets.  From what I’ve heard, they can be more/less expensive because of the lack of control on portion sizes and second servings, but the food is always hot and good.  I just attended a wedding of 40-50 people this past Sunday evening, and it was a sit-down dinner, but I think because of the amount of guests, the service was great, and in fact, much better than other larger venues I have been to.  What did you decide to do?

I vote for family style – I love love love the idea of a family style meal when you’re having a smaller wedding. After all, what can bring people together better than sharing food??
