Another 09-19-09 bride here!  Woot for symmetry!

We are also worried about hurricane season, and anywhere in the Caribbean/Florida/Mexico is a risky plan.  We are taking a cruise to alleviate some of the weather stress.  A cruise ship can maneuver around the storm, and they rarely will visit a destination that will be affected by a hurricane.  We’ll be traveling with Carnival.  The offer scuba at many of their destinations, just check into their shore excursions while doing research.

Good luck to you!

Hi All! I have taken several cruises with Carnival and never once have I been disappointed.  I have also been on Norweigen and I don’t recommend them, they were aweful all around! I also know others that have had problems with Norweigen.

My two favorite islands are Aruba and Grand Cayman! They are both kinda pricey so I’d stay at an All-Inclusive if you can! Also, My friend got married last year (actually 2007 now haha) and they went to St. Lucia thru Sandles and they said you were treated like royalty!

Hi- I got married on 9/20/08 and had such a hard time finding a honeymoon spot… Eastern Mexico is hurricane season but Western Mexico is not. Try Puerta Vallarta. It’s gorgeous there. We ended up going to Europe, France & Italy. September is the off season for Europe so you can enjoy yourself without the crowds.

Another thing you might consider, is just purchaseing Trip insurance so if you go somewhere and a hurricane does happen to pop up on radar.  You are covered and wont loose too much money if you reschedule it.

I think we are going to Hawaii to avoid hurricane season elsewhere.

Isn’t Hawaii still in the hurricane belt?

You should def talk to a travel agent even if you don’t want to book with them.  They can really help you out.  I just talked to one yesterday in fact and she was very helpful with hurricane season, windy places, touristy places etc. and with pricing and when to book.  We still have plenty of time Sept Brides- wait for a good deal!

If you’re willing to leave a couple weeks after the wedding, hurricane season is usually over by October. Most hurricanes in the Caribbean occur mid-September, or so I’ve heard.

We are marrying at the end of August and have this same problem. Hawaii would be the only "tropical" option but we were just in Hawaii last summer so we would prefer to not go there again. We want to go to the Caribbean, specifically St. Lucia, but regardless of the threat of a hurricane it is also very rainy around this time and even if there is no hurricane we don’t want it to be gloomy the whole time.

I think we will wait a few months to book our honeymoon to the Carbbean. Mexico would be an option too (on the Pacific side) but we do NOT want to go to Mexico with all of the drug wars right now so that is out.

We are planning a mini-moon the week after our wedding and then taking a full-blown honeymoon a few months later.

This is always such a problem for honeymooners during hurricane season (which is not over until late November). We did a lot of research.  As far as the Carribean, places like Aruba and Bonaire have less hurricane action. We finally went to a wonderful AI in Costa Rica (http://www.mytropicalhoneymoon.com). My Fiance was big on this because it is absoultely out of the hurricane zone (it is past the 12th meridian line, where you do not get them), but it still had all the tropical stuff we wanted. We were a little concerned about it being "rainy season", but the rains were warm and mostly in the afternoons. Didn’t stop us at all (except for one really rainy day that we put to good use … lol)

They do have scuba-diving there, but I don’t dive, so I don’t know how it rates. Fiji, Polynesia, and the Great Barrier Reef I hear have great diving – but it is a long way to go.

TennisSMLS …. great tip about Travel Insurance,  Many people don’t realize that it is available …
