Why not wear her veil for the ceremony, and then switch to a birdcage for the reception?

Try not to think too much about it until you see it.  Then you can decide what to do.

I was also going to suggest wrapping your bouquet in the lace.

The veil can be cleaned in hot water with a little bleach – swish it around in the water, rinse and hang to dry. Take the lace off and attach to new tulle…if all the lace can’t be salvaged, just trim the bottom edge.

Take some of the lace and wrap your bouquet and your mom’s bouquet/corsage.

Trim a couple of embroidered handkerchiefs, give one to your mom and you carry one.

Make a label trimmed with the lace for the inside of your dress with your name and the wedding date.

@Golden Ticket:  I love these ideas! I was just going to wrap it around my flowers but these are awesome 🙂

Another vote for wrapping lace around your bouquet. That’s what I’m doing 🙂

I have also hear of/seen a bride have a piece of her mom’s dress (or veil) sewn in to the inside of her own dress.

You could also potentially have it used as part of your garter if you have one made.

Or have a piece of it put in a necklace and wear that (or as a charm on a bracelet):

I wore my mom’s veil from 1983.  It was yellowed, but like you, I was wearing an ivory dress, so that wasn’t a big problem.  The issue was the one big yellow stain on it.  I at first tried hand-washing it, but that didn’t do any good.  I finally just bleached the crap out of it, and suddenly it was good as new.  I had to do a bit of sewing to put the lace back where it belonged (it had come off the netting a bit over the years), but that was easy.  It looked lovely on my wedding day.  I would definitely try to repair it before you decide you definitely can’t wear it.
