We’re doing this, too, but after the official wedding. We’re doing hors d’oeuvres and sangria. We can’t go on our honeymoon right away after the real wedding so we’ll go a day or two after the backyard party

Since it’s not the official wedding, we’re putting No Gifts on the invite.

I figure some might bring gifts anyway, and since they’re certain to in your case, I’d just not mention it on the invite and leave it up to the individual.

I love doing sangria, because it’s so easy to make in advance (and is actually better!) so it’s one thing you don’t have to do the day of a party. And it always goes well with summer, spicy foods.

Since reading your idea about games, I’m toying with that idea, but I’m not sure what would work. I’d love croquet, but we could never play it in our yard, which is hilly (although it might be a fun game that way!). I love games like croquet, horseshoes, etc. Anything you can play with a drink in your hand 🙂

My dilemma is whether to have pictures and such from the wedding there for people to see – would it be like: “And here are pictures of the wedding you couldn’t go to” ?

@ProfessorGirl:  I doubt people will be bitter or think it’s tacky if you bring photos – if they couldn’t make it to the wedding, they’re probably anxious to see what it looked like. (especially if you can keep as many as possible off of Facebook, etc before the event, so they’re getting the “first look” at your party… might be fun.) But my opinion is that no one will be upset at having pictuers there – Everyone will probably want to look at them.

@ProfessorGirl:  I think people would love to see the pictures, especially if your party  is beause your wedding is far away. People want to feel as much a part of your day as possible and if they cant be there Im sure theyd love to see it!
