Ugh, you guys I don’t know what to do with my hair. On one hand I love how long it is and how it looks when it’s done. I’m very attached to my hip-length hair BUT it kind of drives me nuts. The amount of time I have to spend untangling it to even be able to get a brush all the way through is outrageous. It’s put in a bun more often that not just because I don’t want to deal with it. I’m not sure what to do. I consider it one of my best features and I really do love how it CAN look but the day to day of it is not so pretty…

Maybe you could just trim it up to mid back? It would still be super long, and you could do the majority of the things you do now, but it would be slightly easier to manage on the day to day.
Kudos to you, though. I don’t know how you manage hip length hair, mine is finally just past my shoulders and it’s already driving me insane 😂

Agree, I’d cut to mid back although I’m jealous of your long hair! I have extensions in so my hair is currently mid back length, it would save me so much money if it would just grow that long naturally 🙂

My hair is down to mid back and I love it – but hip length would be amazing. I’ve done hip length a few times and it is so hard!! In general I’d say cut to around belly button length (when it’s down your back not over your shoulder falling down your front) You’ll get all the benefits of it being long but it’s way less work!
Also – use Trader Joe’s hair mask daily as a conditioner (it is an absolute lifesaver for me) and brush you hair out with a wet brush. It’s how I manage mine!

This is my favorite product to help with tangles. Enjoy Shine and Smooth serum. A small amount (dime size or less) goes a long way; apply to wet hair (avoid the scalp), distribute evenly with fingers, then brush through. Good luck!

I had thick, hip length hair and I was just fed up of it – it was everywhere (either attached to my head or not). I spent most of the time with it pulled back, I didn’t have the to style it in the mornings. I went for a dramatic chop 3 weeks ago and I LOVE it!
My usual habit is cut it short, grow it long, cut it short, then go back to growing it long. If you fancy a change might as well go all in!

I went thru this around six years ago. I loved it when it looked nice but it always had to be up for work, which was a literal headache with how heavy hair gets when it’s that length, I was always tucking it into the waistband of my pants by accident and I was so tired of finding long ass hairs everywhere! I chopped fifteen inches – a shoulder length bob – gave the hair to Locks of Love and honestly, I felt so good! I felt much lighter, my hair had so much body and bounce that I was oblivious to because of how it weighed and it just looked so much healthier.
Haven’t been able to get it past my shoulders since; I enjoy it being short too much.

I’m sure you hear this all the time but your hair is to die for!

Thank you all so much for your help!! I’ve decided to get a trim and invst in a better deep conditioner. For now I think I’ll just lose 3 or so inches but may consider making a bigger chop before heading to nursing school next fall (the idea of my hair getting in bodily fluids grosses me out… and so does the idea of wearing my hair in a bun every day)!
