It all depends on cut shape.. I would rock between a 2-3 ct round (probably 2.5 ideally, but realistically probably no more than 2), but in terms of emerald I would rock a massive one 🙂

Definitely not for my engagement ring.

I would be much more open to a larger cocktail ring, but definitely not for every day wear.

I would go with a huge pefect 4 ct cushion cut diamond. I have long fingers and fat hands so it would work. But of course only in my dreams!

For a ring to wear every day, like an engagement ring, I prefer to wear under 1ct. My ring size is a 4.5, so large stones look funny on me. I have some of my Mom’s cocktail rings that are 3-5 ct. gemstones, and they’re just not comfortable for very long. I think I’m in the minority though!

@ladyamalthea  I love looking at big bling but I voted 1-2 carats because I find that even slightly bigger than 2 ct looks like a cocktail ring on my finger in terms of proportion. I would get a 1.5 oval or cushion lab created ruby or blue sapphire… and after we’re done with getting my e-ring made I plan too!

I would pay a master cutter to cut a pale yellow radiant and then cut the corners deeper so that instead of being square the stone would be octagonal.  No one does this because stones are cut to maximise weight.  A shame really.

My fingers are a size 10, so I would absolutely wear 3+ carets!  It wouldn’t look that silly on me!

@ladyamalthea  I think 1 carat is perfect for me, I have pretty small hands (4.25) and think 2-3 carats would definitely be way too much for me.

No way! I’d probably try to find the most perfect princess cut diamond but wouldn’t go over half a carat. I have very small hands (size 3.25) and would feel silly with anything bigger.

I would, however, love a large sapphire cocktail ring for special occasions! 🙂

It would be a diamond, because colourless matches more things, and you need an everyday ring to match your stuff.

For an everyday ring, definitely well under 1 carat for reasons of both practicality and security (risk of mugging etc).

I’d wear a big stone, but not daily. I work with my hands too much to have something bulky there at all times.

2 or more carats would be a bit much for me.  I’ve learned that I don’t like big rocks on my hands, especially if they’re high set.  I’m more into blingy bands than big stones, it’s just a better fit for me.

That being said, MrsSkeletonKey better never leave her 3 Ct moissy ring unattended in my prescence, because I’m taking it!

Hell yeah, I would loooove a bigger stone. And I have larger fingers so I’d totally rock a 3+ carat stone.

My fingers are freakishly thin, so I think 3ct would look wayyyyy too big and guady on me. But if I have big fingers, I totally would!
