I started using all natural products – Burts Bees, for sensitive skin. They have other product lines, but it’s amazing. I have Rocasea and it has cleared up. I’ve  been using it for about 3 weeks now.

I use a pure honey mask 2 days a week to bring the PH balance to normal also.

Maybe try a different dermatologist? There are definitely cheaper medications you could try.

@jmaze:  +1 in regard to the honey! I would definitely try this, I’ve heard amazing things.

Keeping “chemicals” off my face – and using natural products, less irritation on my face, fewer pimples, breakouts and flareups within the last few weeks.

I had bad breakouts when I changed/stopped birth control pills and I tried so many different things and different dermatologists. I found for me that I just had to figure out what my routine was. I like Philosophy’s Purity Made Simple and I don’t use any acne fighting medication at all, I realised that using anything for acne was just making my skin 10000x worse.

My acne has been a lot worse since coming off BC in June. I just use plain old bar soap. Make sure your moisturizing like crazy.

Keep your face clean.  Use sensitive skin products to wash your face at least twice a day.  Toss all of your makeup and buy new stuff for sensitive skin (most of it expires in 3-6 months but people forget to toss it out.)  I don’t use any acne creams or gels because they dry out my skin but I have found keeping my face super clean by washing it twice a day really helps.  Also, use an alcohol free tonor and a light moisturizer (I like old fashioned oil of olay and you can buy it formulated for sensitive skin now.)  I don’t wear makeup unless I have to either because it’s really not good for your skin.

I also do an old fashioned green or blue clay mask once a week to clear out my pores.  Use a light moisturizer right afterwards to close your pores back off to keep the dirt out.  Use a face wash with exfoiliating beads; I use Biore Pore Unclogging Scrub because it’s soft enough for daily use.  Then I follow it up with Biore Blemish Fighting Ice Cleanser.  If I do the mask this is where it gets done.  Finally, I rub on Equate Ultra-Gentle Facial Moisturizer (oil free) which is equivalent to the Olay product with a similar name.  Most of the time, that’s it.  Occasionally, I will also wear makeup but I make sure to wash it off every night before bed.

I have been off BC for almost 2 years now, not TTC, just could not handle the way it made me feel. My skin has been all over the place but now it starting to clear up. Your diet plays a huge part in the appearance of your skin. Make sure you taking your vitamins, a good skin, hair and nails formula with lots of B vitamins, Vit C, Zinc, Vit D, E &A. You can either take capusules or pills but try taking 5-6 fish oil capusules daily or 2-3 tbsp if you buy the oil. I would also suggest taking evening primrose oil capsules to help balance hormones. Limit if not cut out sugar and processed carbs and refined foods. Soy products also can affect estrogen and there is a good chance you may be dominant since you have been on BC for a while. Make sure you are dirnking lots of water and if you have oily skin trying drnking several cups of peppermint tea everyday. I would also suggest seeing a naturopath if possible and/ an acupunturist who can help balance the hormones and help you conceive.

I use a soap free cleanser and alcohol free toner in the morning. At night, I use just the cleanser and then apply my Differin prescription before bed. It’s only $15 with my insurance and has always worked for me. I wold check out their website and see if it’s something you might want to ask your doctor about. I too was hoping when I hit my 20s that my breakouts would magically disappear. Sooo not the case lol. Good luck!

@MrsTillerResq  No, like, Pure, Raw Honey – You can buy it at any whole foods place.  The stuff in the grocery store is too processed  and “cooked” down.
