If I say Luke Reid…do you instantly think of the Velvet underground guy?

coffeeandtv : to be honest, it did make me think of Lou Reed but only because The Velvet Underground is one of my favourite bands. I don’t think anyone I know even knows who they are so I think it really depends.

I think it’s a very nice name.

Nope, I’m a huge Lou Reed and Velvet Underground fan but wouldn’t instantly make that connection. Luke and Lou are two completely different names. And since it appears that Reid will be a middle name it is not like people will be referring to him as Luke Reid on the reg.  I am, however, not a huge fan of how it flows to basically become Lou Creed when you say it together unless you are intentionally slowing it down to enunciate, but per my previous point it’s not like it will be used a lot.

I think we’re also at the point where an entire generation (or two) of people, unless they have exceptionally good taste in music, have no idea who Lou Reed even is … even though they really really should. So I’m not sure that is something you really ought to worry about unless you’re intentionally trying to name your child after Lou Reed and are worried Luke Reid isn’t too close enough.

I don’t even know who that is…but also they are different names so I wouldn’t worry about it.

Not familiar with who that is.

Your kid is rarely going to be saying their full name to anyone anyway.

No, I doubt the younger generation even knows who that is.

No. When I read the title of your post, I was like, it’s Lou, not Luke. Lol. But I get what you are saying.  So even when it is the same sentence as Velvet Underground, I didn’t associate it.

Also, my husband is named after a musician from a well known 70’s band and literally nobody our age has any idea.

No. But Lou Reed would be way cooler than Luke Reed.

sydneybee4 :  the velvet underground is one of my favorite bands too. I love Lou Reed. 🙂

The name *may* remind some people of Lou Reed but probably not too many. Luke Reid is a nice name.

Wouldn’t most people be calling him Luke McConnell? Most people don’t use middle names very often.
