I am thinking of switching my make-up/hair people. I payed the deposit for the day and payed for my trial, at which I was not satisfied. My contract gaurantees service to a number of people on my wedding day – if I cancel on them, I will only lose the amount already payed, correct? I am not obligated to follow through with the additional services I signed for?

Most vendors seem to set up their contracts so that you would just lose your deposit. BUT read your contract carefully… the answer should be in there 🙂

YOu need to read your contract. Some will say that they require x amount of days prior to the event to cancel to get a full/partial refund. Some say no cancellations

Check out the contract to see what the stipulations are…

Of course you can back out of your contract! You should read it though because you will be liable for whatever you agreed to when you signed it.The contract should have spelled out the liabilities if either party cancelled.

FYI, if it says anything like your deposit will constitute the amount of salon’s “liquidated damages” in the event of cancellation X days ahead, blah blah blah, that is the clause you are looking for.

Right – look at the contract, duh. It did not say anything that would lead me to believe I would have to pay for services not provided. Just stuff about not holding them liable if I’m unhappy. I think I’m in the clear.
