I have an appointment to try on wedding dresses at davids bridal today at 2. my biggest fear is that they are not going to have any dresses for me because I wont fit in them. Im going with some friends and family and don’t wanna be embarressed. Only started thinking about this 2 days ago since someone pointed out to me that dress sizes are diffrent from acual sizes. Im scared lol

@FutureMrs.Spencer: David’s Bridal is usually spot on in size, unlike other bridal places. I tried on a size up and a size down there. It shouldn’t be a problem ๐ No worries, you’re going to look great.

At David’s bridal (and Alfred Angelo) the dresses are closer to street size, so my guess would be a size 24 or maybe 26.
There will be dresses for you to try on. That’s one of the nice things about DB and AA-they carry a range of sizes. I’m a size 18 and tried on maybe 15 different dresses at DB and 12 different dresses at AA.

David’s is GREAT about having every size in most dresses. SOME may be a little small or a little large, depending on their selection, but they are seriously great about having it. You’re not going to have to squeeze into a size 8 or anything! I am a 20 IRL, and my wedding dress from David’s is a 22W, but very close. ๐
Good luck! ๐ Let us know how it goes.

DB matched my street size exactly. Other places the wedding dress size was 2 sizes bigger. DB carries a wide range of sizes so even if you have to go up a size or two DB will likely have samples you can try on.

We spent three hours at David’s yesterday trying to find FI’s gown. It was a hot mess since they discontinued her’s two days ago and we couldn’t order it, but it was a fabulous time and we are also in the same boat as you, but we were able to try on a dozen gowns in the styles we want. Fiance found a gown in the As-Is section for a third of the original cost. There was nothing wrong with the gown, it was just not the color they sell samples in. I ended up having to order my gown in an extended size (28) because of my bust.

If you’re a 24, in regular bridal (not DB) you might be close to a 30. I am a size 16 on top and 20 in jeans, and my dress was ordered in a 26 to fit my hips (and has to be taken in 13 inches on top… yikes).

Seriously it really depends on the brand. Because some dresses I tried on were my street size, and the one I ordered I had to go WAY up. I think the more couture/designer the dress, the smaller they usually run. But I have no real evidence of this, Lol.
It also REALLY depends on the fit of the dress!!! If its a mermaid vs A line, and also how you carry your weight in general.

Usually plus size dresses are more close to street size. Also, the brand really makes a difference. I got a davids bridal dress size 18 and I was a street size 16, but I had to have it taken in (sample dress) so I totally could have fit into the 16 but I bought the sampel that was an 18. Also, it depends on where you carry the most of your weight. e.g. if it is an aline and you carry most your weight in your leggs/butt, its not really gonna affect the size. But if you got a mermaid you are going ot have to get a bigger size to fit your bottom and then taken in on the top.
Dont be scared about fitting in them! I know its difficult because I was afraid of the same thing. Dont worry about size. Just go based on the sizing chart. DB is good at having a lot of dresses in plus size (at least the one I went to)
I cannot wait to see pics of your dresses that you try on! please post for us!!!!
Good luck!

For me Davids Bridal wasn’t my street size. I wear a size 18/ 20. I needed a 26 for my top.

Hey I just got back and to my surprise I found THE dress! I tryed on a size 22. It fit but I couldnt breath haha the consultant said I should get it in a size 24. Its corseted in the back and a fit and flare (which I really wanted but was scared wouldnt work with my body) Its Ivory and lace with with beautiful bling detail on the side and top. I had an hourglass shape in it. haha I never looked so slim in my life! lol The bride next to us and her family were even saying how beautiful I looked. It was a great feeling ๐
