I am a Controller (Accounting/Finance, not air traffic), but I would work retail. I would like to work my way up to being a Buyer, but wouldn’t mind starting on the sales floor.

DoubleA903:  This is awesome because Fiance & I were literally just talking about this!! We had one of those, “If we won the lottery, what would we do with our lives” conversations…in which we both decided that (even if we could afford to) we wouldn’t want to simply stop working for the rest of our lives, when then led to the conversation, “okay, then, if it didn’t matter how much money we made –or lost– what would we do?” And we decided we’d become florists. I mean, we’ve got no experience with flower arranging, but planning the flowers for our DIY wedding has been so fun (plus we both love flowers & gardening) that we think it would make an awesome (pretend) career for us. ๐Ÿ™‚

What I actually do: I’m a financial analyst.

What I would do:  Something food related like testing recipes in America’s Test Kitchen, or running a food blog since I love food photography.

What I really do:  I’m a Content Manager, and yes, it’s as “glamorous” as it sounds.

Artist! I would love to have a spacious studio in my dream home. Being a stay at home mom and professional artist/ illustrator/ crafter would be my ideal life!

I already do freelance projects with my art and craft shows so I would just love for that to be enough

I’d love to work at a zoo. I currently work at a school so I guess that’s close enough ๐Ÿ˜›

I’m like the guy from Office Space. If money would no object, I wouldn’t want a career! I don’t have a dream job or feed into the myth that everyone has something that they’re passionate about.

If money was no object I would be a stay at home mum who wrote novels while her babies were sleeping/at school. I’ve always looked up to my mum (who was a stay at home mum) and wanted to do the same, but at this stage I don’t know if we will be able to afford it. And I have a life goal of writing a novel.

jelly3:  I totally get that feeling. Because part of me is like well stay at home mum isn’t exactly a career. But you’re right, not everyone has something they are super passionate about and could do every day forever just because they love it. I don’t think there is anything wrong with thinking that if money was no issue you wouldn’t work!

OneDayMrsL: I agree! It really bothers me when I hear the “follow your passion” speech. I don’t have a passion for a career and I think that’s okay. My passion is for my family and the people I love. I don’t view success by career or social standing. I base my success on my happiness and the happiness of those around me. I could see myself enjoying being a stay-at-home mom as well.

jelly3:  Exactly!! If I am happy, and the people around me are happy, then I am living a successful life ๐Ÿ™‚

I would love to be an interior designer or homicide detective.

Since I just graduated Friday with 2 BA’s in Criminal Justice and Sociology, interior design is not in the plan lol. I really have no idea what I’m doing with my life. I plan on going back and getting a certificate in wedding/event planning and starting my own business. We plan on me being a stay at home mom, which I am looking forward to because I am so excited to give my kids the life I was robbed of.

MMA or Muay Thai fighter.  I know I can’t do it because I have so much student debt, so it’s one of those dreams I just sort of laugh at.. I just want to train all day… is that too much to ask?

And if you’re curious about what I do now, I’m getting my Ph.D in organic geochemistry and climate science.  My loans and wanting to contribute more to my family’s income keeps me from dropping out when I go through those typical grad student panic moments, or when I start thinking of taking some amateur fights.

ETA: I would also love to teach children science. But alas, the pay is poor and the positions in my area are slim and seem to be taken by people who aren’t very good at their job (or at least not passionate about it).

I would be happy in my current job, but I would just work less. Actually, there are a lot of jobs that would just be fun to try out, but I wouldn’t want to do them long term.
