Rent a truck and enlist friends or look for a moving service and have them meet you at the person’s house and transport it to your house (more expensive)

We rented a trailer from U-Haul.  I have a hitch on my Subaru and I love it.

If you have ZipCar or IGo in your area, at least one of them now has vans available.

Before I married the man with the truck, I would usually bribe friends with trucks. I think most Home Depots in the area rent trucks and cargo vans by the hour but I have no clue how much they cost, probably similar to a uhaul I would guess.

We borrow a friend’s truck whenever we buy furniture from anywhere that doesn’t deliver. He’ll usually offer to come with to help load/unload

treat it for Bedbugs before bringing it into your home, that’s my only advice!  Especially if its used

You can go to Home Depot and rent trucks for 19 dollars for 75 minutes! I would be careful buying second hand furniture because of bedbug issues!

@MM423:  We got our queen size bed and mattres (together) in my husband’s small Ford Focus. We also got our futon and our papsan chair back home too (but not together). If it’s not too far and you’re creative it can be done 🙂 Good luck!

We used 2 cars! Granted it was for a dresser and crib.. and the crib was in pieces… (not a drop down)

I have gotten two bedframes and two “new” mattresses on Craigslist (still in the plastic), never had a problem with bedbugs.  Both times I used my cousin, who had a truck.

Darling Husband bought a fridge on craigslist, and rented a van from UHaul for like $40.

When we need to move furniture or something big, we borrow my FIL’s van. Can you borrow a van from someone?

I found a seller that was willing to transport a couch to my apartment for like, $10 – lucky that I ended up really liking that couch, because I only had my brother and a Jeep Grand Cherokee to try to transport something else home!  So look out for people who can move the furniture for you, they do exist!
