@NovaRising:  agreed! I’ve stayed away from purchasing diamond earrings bc i always loose earrings! My Fiance bought me a 200 dollar pair once and i lost one… ever since then i’ve never wanted to get diamond earrings… but i never thought of the screwbacks!!! so awesome!

@weddingbee098:  my Etsy person warned me against screw backs. she said the threads collect bacteria and they get stripped out so quickly because they are gold. When the threads get stripped, the backs just fall right off.  also, from my own personal experience, they are a huge pain in the butt to take on and off.

she made my earrings with a different kind of safety clutch.  they look like this: http://www.stuller.com/products/22260/71038/?groupId=13846

they really do not fall off, even if you pull hard on the earring. and they’re way faster to take on and off. the only downside is that they were expensive.

anyway, I wonder if other jewelry stores offer something similar to this?

@weddingbee098: Me too!  This is why I stopped spending a lot of money on earrings since I kept losing them.  I’ve even lost hoops while removing my cellphone and/or bluetooth.

  That’s weird

@nerdybird:.  I disinfect my earring post with rubbing alcohol on a regular basis.  I haven’t had this pair for long but I have a good friend that first told me about screwbacks.  She’s had a few pairs in gold for over ten years with no problems.  But I agree that they are a pain to take off and put back on but so worth it instead of losing earrings all the time.  Especially if you paid a pretty penny for them.

@NovaRising:  I was honestly surprised to hear my jeweler’s criticisms about screwbacks too. I was mainly interested because I hated dealing with them, so I wanted to say that there are easier options.

I love them! totally worth the extra expense. they’re really flat, so it allows room to add those rubber earring backs to the end so the posts don’t poke me when I lay down.

I have 1ctw earrings that are ideal cut, vs1, j and round in platinum with 4 prongs from Blue Nile. Love what I have, but if I could, I’d go up in color (D-F) and carat 2-3ctw.

Depends on what you have and what you want. If we’re really dreaming big? I would take pink diamond studs, 2 ctw ish. But realistically, I would either do platinum bezel studs (.5-1 ctw), or prong set studs (2-3 ctw), depending on your ear size, what you have, and personal style. I would get them from Brian Gavin Diamonds. Maybe some pink diamond jackets too…

@nerdybird:  That’s understandable.  I love using those rubber backs but I always end up losing those too especially while lying down.  Just my luck but at least they’re super cheap.

I would have 4ctw (2 carat each), round brilliants set in platinum with 6 to 8 delicate prongs.

@bnamrs4evr:  I like studs the most.  Plus going into the medical field it’s the only thing I can wear professionally.  I do like dangling styles for going out but they get in the way during everyday task.

I would choose a pair of white gold blue diamond studs. either a 1/2ctw or 1 ctw. I’m not picky ๐Ÿ˜‰
