The Azores! There have been great deals there, and it seems like this amazing little island for hiking and beaches with a quaint European vibe.

I’d also consider Copenhagen, Amsterdam or Paris, if you can tolerate the jetlag. We did a 6 day trip to Paris (with travel time, only 4 1/2 days there) and it was short, but not too short to really love it.

Closer to home and in the summer, I’d consider Montreal or Quebec City or Bermuda or Puerto Rico.

…..and now I want to schedule my own little vacation. Let us know where you go!

For 5 days I wouldn’t want to have a flight past 8 hours or so. Might be nice to go half way across the world but using half the vacation on travel time is silly to me. From DC the Caribbean, Spain, Portugal or Iceland would be fun.

With only 5 days, I wouldn’t fly much more than 6 or 7 hours tops.  With that restriction……Hands down Iceland!  Or London depending on if you want scenic or more activities and sites.

Venezuela, Peru, Brazil. It would be so cool to see Cuba but we American tourists still cannot

Antarctica. I really regret not going on that three day cruise/one day port of call, years ago. Just think of all the cocktail party convos I could have had by now about that trip. Sigh.

I second Iceland, it seems amazing. I’ve never been, but I really want to go. It’s not that far from the east coast and it’s not too expensive as a tourist destination (yet…because it really seems to be blowing up of late). I have a lot of friends who have gone there for a short-ish vacation like what you are trying to plan, and they all loved it and highly recommend it.
