I don’t wear a ton of makeup on a daily basis, just a bit of eyeliner/neutral eyeshades/mascara and some powder blush/bronzer. I want to do my makeup for engagement pictures and maybe even for the wedding – I have lots of time to practice still and I’ve already improved a bunch watching Youtube tutorials and getting tips from a friend. The hardest part for me though is knowing what products to buy… there are SO many.
So far I have MUFE foundation, HD powder, Smashbox primer, several different blush/bronzers, and Urban Decay Naked Palette 1. I never do anything on my lips so I’m at a total loss there.
Any amazing products or tips I should know about?

@Pinkmoon: Using long lasting products and primers will help your makeup stay looking nice all day. I am probably going to use Monistat gel as a primer (NOT a yeast treatment, it is a silicone gel which is what makeup primers are mostly made of) and a setting spray from Urban Decay.
I have heard good things about Makeup Forever’s lipliner and liquid lipstick that they do not budge once you put them on.
One of my favourite companies at the moment is Bourjois, you can find it at Shoppers. Bourjois owns Chanel, so their makeup is similar but much cheaper.

@Pinkmoon: Love UD Naked :). If you bought the kit, it comes with the primer potion – use it, it’s amazeballs. Otherwise, I suggest investing in a good set of brushes. The right tools make ALL the difference in applying your makeup properly. Especially with eye shadow – you need crease brushes, blending brushes, liner brushes…basically, you need a lot of brushes. Look on Amazon…there’s some highly rated sets that don’t cost a fortune. I’m DIY’ing my day-of makeup as well, so I’m in the same boat as you! Good luck to us 🙂

@Pinkmoon: I will be doing my own makep! I’ll be using Smashbox primer, Smashbox 15hr longwear foundation, and Urban Decay’s setting spray.
For setting powder, eyeshadow, blush, eyeliner, mascara, lip color, blush, bronzer, and highlighter, I’ll be using a mix of Covergirl, Revlon and Maybelline products that I’ve always had success with.

@pixiecat: I’ve heard of this Monistat gel! I totally would have bought that if I hadn’t already gotten the expensive one. I’ll check out Bourjois, my friend has a ton of Chanel makeup and swears by it.
@FutureCuomo6610: Oh yes – prior to this endeavor it was all fingers/crappy sponges that come with my drugstore eyeshadow. I now own a ton of brushes and I’m getting comfortable with them, figuring out which ones I like best etc. There is NO WAY I could have done this without my new tools!

I used NARS concealer and foundation, Bare Essentials mineral viel, Urban Decay eye liner and mascara, Este Lauder eye shadow and blush, and Baby Lips lip moisturizer (I never wear any color on my lips and I wanted to be able to kiss my sweetie!!). One of my bridesmaids added a few individual eyelashes to the corners of my eyes for a bit extra oomph.
Looking back on it I wish I had gone a little heavier on the blush (it faded away pretty quickly) and kept my lip gloss on me during the photo sessions to re-apply.

@TattedNYBride: Are you using the All Nighter spray or the De Slick? I will probably buy one of them. My T-zone does get shiny after several hours so I’m leaning towards De Slick.
@thenextmrsi: I love that you did natural lips! I never wear anything either so I’m not really sure what I want to do about that, but knowing that another bride didn’t use much makes me feel a lot better if I do that too!

I did my own!
Here’s what I used: MUFE’s HD kit (primer, foundation, and setting powder), Urban Decay’s Naked Palette, eye shadow primer, de-slick spray (before putting on foundation and then before the setting powder), all nighter spray after I completed the look, Stila’s waterproof liquid liner and lip stick balm, Benefit’s They’re Real Mascara (I was going to use fake lashes but could not get them to work that day!), can’t remember what kind of brow pencil, Tarte’s Amazonian Clay blush in Blissful (my go-to), and bronzer in Hotel Heiress, the Balm’s highlighter in Mary Lou Luminizer, and Nyx lip liner in some natural color.
It rained on my wedding day but my make up stayed all day long. I only had to touch up my lipstick.

@Pinkmoon: I am going with the All Nighter. I get a bit oily, but I also exfoliate and use a toner before I apply makeup, so I am hoping not to get too oily. If I need to, I’ll have some blotting papers on hand.

@pixiecat: I use the Monistat gel every day – my makeup stays for a good 18 hours! It is awesome!
@Pinkmoon: Personally, I like Clinique and MAC lipsticks. I don’t think drugstore lipsticks last as long, and I think they feather more. A MAC matte lipstick paired with a lip gloss will last a long time. If you do a dark lipstick, make sure to use a lip liner.

@Pinkmoon: I used both De-slick and All Nighter. De-slick works really well right after you apply foundation primer as an added primer and then before setting powder.
Look back at the list I just made, I probably would have saved money using a make up artist but I had collected everything through the year. I’m still using most of it now!

The only real high-end item I purchased was the Urban Decay de-slick setting spray, just a little travel size bottle. I LOVED it, my skin is sensitive & oily and it worked great, even in the Mexican heat & humidity!

Another thing that makes a big difference in photos is eyebrows. I never do my brows becaus I can’t be bothered. I didn’t want to buy a brow product that I wouldn’t use afterwards. I have a matte eyeshadow that matches, so I just brushed it over my brows. When I called my mom on Skype to show her my trial of makeup the first thing she said was how nice my brows looked.

@MRSsrm85: You look awesome! Thanks for the detail, I have some of that Sephora stuff already.
