I think you can make it a romantic stay-cation.  Build a fire, light candles, cook a fun meal, drink some wine, and take a deep breath.  Or, go skiing/snow shoeing/sledding nearby (I assume there’ll be snow in Canada) for the day and come home and have a hot chocolate/hot alcoholic night at home. See if there’s a play/musical/event that you can find last minute tickets to.  Become a tourist in your home town.  Make a scavenger hunt for each other.  Or, stay in bed all day long having sex and remembering your wedding.  It is what you make it to be.

I’d book 2 nights in a hotel in your city…sometimes just being out of the house can make it special and unique. OR, plan 2-3 days at home doing the activities in your city you have always wanted to do, plus splurge on fancy dinners/champagne.
