Okay, let’s preface this. My bf and I are a bit wacky and loooove stupid humor like anything Will Ferrel, the Hangover, Saving Sarah Marshall, Napeleon Dynamite – that kind of stuff.
We aren’t hopeless romantics and I want nothing to do with a storybook, princess-y wedding. We’re actually considering putting old school games like Hungry Hungry Hippo and Operation as centerpieces during Cocktail hour and just making a really fun reception.
Anyway, we ALWAYS kid about first dance songs – since before either of us even entertained the idea of getting married. But – and you have to have seen Saving Sarah Marshall to know this one – Russel Brand sings a song at the hotel in Hawaii to Sarah Marshall called ‘Inside of You’ that is both ridiculous and hilarious. It’s the kind of thing where most of our friends/siblings will know it well enough to laugh and know it’s very ‘us’ and for our parents, well, they probably will not be able to discern the words just from hearing it that first time and will think its just a love song. If they do pick up on any of the naughty imagery, I think they would probably shake their heads, smile and think ‘well, I have three other kids that are normal’. Anyway, we were at a wedding the other night and as they were dancing their first dance, my guy was whispering the lyrics to ‘Inside of You’ in my ear and we were quietly giggling when he said ‘you don’t have the b#lls to do it’ and I assured him I did, but didn’t think he did.
So, would you dance to it or something equally silly? I actually entertained the idea of getting a wedding singer that would do the ‘I f*#$ing need you now tonight’ from the Wedding Singer or whatever that movie was – too funny! But I don’t want cursing!

I LOVE IT!!!! So awesome lol, please record this if you do it!
Edit: Only cause I love this movie lol

It’s a pretty dirty song if you read the lyrics, LOL. Oh well! I think most of your guests won’t hear the words though!

I would never do it. ever. haha. But thats because I’m totally not like that! But if thats what you guys want to do, if thats what represents you guys as a couple. do it! Other people might find it offensive, but at the end of the day they’ll think ” At least it was fun, and they were true to themselves”.

Okay, I first have to tell you, I am probably around the same age as your mother, and I would not be offended; however, some people might be. I am the type of person that really listens to the words of songs, so I would totally understand where the song was coming from. If your family and his family are fairly well acquainted with the way you two are as a couple, then I think you could get away with it. I know I wouldn’t be able to do it, but I am much more conservative than what it seems you and your Fiance are.

Don’t think I could go that far personally…. However, on the note of your games, I LOVE it! I actually found a bunch of vintage wooden games (peg jumps, those ball in maze ones, etc) and put those out on the tables at our cocktail hour. It went over very well. I would totally be down for playing some Hungry Hungry Hippos at a wedding!!

Lol – now you all know that I’ve got no limits 😛 I really want to do this dance and so does he and I know we’ll be dying laughing though it enough to not notice my Dad glaring at me, lol! But it’s one thing to want to do it…..I’m wondering if I could acutally do it! I can see people coming up to us later saying ‘omg, I can’t believe you did that, but it was funny and it was ‘you two”. I don’t think I’ll offend too many – most of us are either too old to hear it anyway, watch the same stuff or just expect this type of thing – don’t worry, there won’t be any kids’
Anyway….sway me! One side or the other and thanks for the posts so far. And don’t worry – I will upload that dance immediately to youtube and here! For your viewing pleasure or displeasure.
Bakerella, thanks about the game ideas! We are also thinking of renting a foosball table or two, as well. The place I want to use has two great stations for cocktail hour that would go good with this idea – one is a mini fajita and corona station and the other is a 50’s soda shop station with mini angus sliders, curly disco fries (I’m in Jersey, gotta have disco fries) and the server dressed as a soda jerk. Expensive, but I think it’d be worth it for the theme…

Love that song! I have no advice on whether to use it though. I also love the idea of putting games at the tables. As a guest of many weddings where there’s a lot of waiting, I would certainly appreciate it. Hungry Hungry Hippo is a total winner.

I think it is completely inappropriate.

LOL! I don’t think I have the b#lls to do it, but if you do, more power to you! As a guest, if I heard that at a wedding I would LOVE it! Seriously, if you think the older people won’t notice/care, I say go for it.
I LOVE the Dan Band (the wedding singer you’re talking about)!! My Fiance and I joked about hiring him after watching The Hangover and the other movie he was in (can’t think of it right now). Sadly, the Future Mother-In-Law would have a stroke if we did anything that non-traditional.

Hmm… I love those made-for-a-14-year-old-boy movies too, (like really, I do, a lot!) but I would definitely cringe if I saw it done. Not sure if your parents will be paying, but if so, you know, you could really embarrass and ruffle feathers too. I would save it for the bachelor/bachelorette or after party.
And it’s Forgetting Sarah Marshall, isn’t it?

If there are going to be any nana’s there I’d say don’t do it. Too cringey for the nana’s!
Yes Forgetting, as in I forgot the name, lol! Thanks!
No, we’re 30 and 36, so paying our own way. That’s one of the benefits to that, huh? 😛 And the only nana going is pretty hip but I highly doubt she’d be able to follow the words since her hearing isn’t great.
We could always shrug and say ‘it means understanding each other deep into our souls – why what did YOU think it meant?’ if anyone said anything to cast suspicion of naughtiness back to them…..lol

Yes, the DAN band – the Hangover performance was hilarious. I was watching it on tv yesterday and totally missed how over the top he was at the movie theatre!
