@NovaRising:  .”Come look at my engagement ring”

Yeah, but “diamond ring” gets more oohs and ahhhs than saying engagement ring! Innocent

No – i like moissannite – just not for a wedding ring. i guess i’m actually a little traditional in that way.

Nope…there’s something truly symbolic about the traditional diamond ring for engagement/wedding (plus, diamonds happen to be my birthstone so they’ve always held a place in my heart)…I have no problem w/ moissys and love all kinds of gemstones [and costume jewelry…for less important and symbolic pieces, of course]…I’m just a boring traditionalist and think e-rings should be diamonds…I also really prefer smaller diamonds (esp for rings…I have tiny carnie hands, hehe) so price wasn’t an issue.

i would not have, have always wanted a diamond for my engagement ring and nothing else, although moissanite and other stones are gorgeous! so my choice would have stayed the same, i love my diamond ring!

It was just a personal choice for me. I had thought about getting another kind of stone, but I knew in my heart of hearts that what I wanted was a diamond.

I can’t vote. I suggested moissy but he insisted on diamond.

@happyface:  This I don’t get.  Do people really say: “Come look at my ____________ engagement ring?”

I never invite people to look at my ring lol.  And if someone admires it, it doesn’t usually come up in conversation what the stone is unless I’m discussing the whole its an heirloom setting with a new diamond.  Unless.. I’m here on the boards discussing it or I’m talking to his family because they are asking a lot of questions.  The whole story about the thing is a little tricky so I don’t talk about it unless I have to.

Its really no one’s business what the hell stone it is lol.  The gaul of some people to ask something like that or carat size etc is just amazing.  I can’t believe the stories I read here for bees getting grief about their rings no matter what stone is in them or how big or small they are.

@happyface:  When they see my ring, they assume it’s a diamond and what you see is more important than what you  hear.  BTW, my ring is an asha not a moissy.  But the same thing applies.

I would’ve looked into it if I had known about it… I had never even heard of moissanite before I started reading this boards AFTER I got engaged. My wedding ring was 10,000.00 and honestly I felt sick when I found out how much he spent. I love my ring.. It’s beautiful and unique but…. I would’ve liked to see alternative options. It makes me nervous having something so expensive on my finger!

But, honestly, I don’t think Fiance would’ve gone for anything but a diamond.

“Maybe” or “I would’ve looked into it..” should be an option in the poll.

No. I didn’t want a large stone, and I really love my diamond.

Absolutely not and my DH would refuse to buy a moissanite as well. While I am starting to really love and appreciate colorful gemstones the feeling is not the same for moissanite.

If my DH couldn’t have afforded the diamond I recieved I would have opted for a smaller diamond.

No.  I like moissanite for earrings and bracelets, but not for engagement rings.  If I had decided against a diamond, I would have gone with a natural sapphire.

DH and I bought a loose Moissy and Asha and while they were both beautiful, we decided they weren’t for us because we felt that we would only be using them since they looked like diamonds but were cheaper.

We actually sold the moissy to our friends who loved it and couldn’t afford a diamond in the same size.  I think it looks beautiful on her hand and I am glad it found a loving home.
