Get ready at your parents' home

    Get ready at your home

Get ready at venue for ease(taking 4.5 hours there before ceremony starts) with less privacy

Get ready at home and finish getting ready at venue but risk bumping into guests..

I’d get ready at home if I had that option…

Either your home or your parents home. You want to be comfortable and not too concerned about all your stuff

As mine is a Destination Wedding, I’ll be in a hotel. I like the idea of somewhere completely neutral and chaos free!

Is your concern about your dress getting wrinkled on the drive? If so, do hair/makeup at home, then put your dress on at the venue.

I got ready at my parents home, but that is because they live 5 minutes from our venue and the best man lives in the same building, so DH & sons got ready there and we did our first look in the courtyard of their building.  It made it easy for our photographer to go back and forth for photos of both of us during the getting ready stage.  If it was 30 minutes from the venue I’d probably either get ready at the venue or at a suite in a nearby hotel.

ETA we did go to the venue and take photos there for about 2 hours before the ceremony, we went to the private room though before guests began arriving.

I got ready at the venue. I think getting ready at the house would be too chaotic. Plus, with our timeline, it didn’t really work out for that. But anyway, I voted venue just because it was so much easier for us. And in the morning when I forgot my engagement ring we had plenty of time to go pick it up, as opposed to arriving at the venue ready 15 minutes before and realizing I forgot it and then everyone freaking out.

I got partway ready at my home (shower), partway ready at parents home (makeup/hair), and partway ready at the church (dress, etc.).

Well my ceremony venue is my parents’ home so I didn’t really know how to answer that. I’m getting hair and makeup done outside the home (going to the salon) and coming back for photographer to take pics before I get into the dress. We will be getting ready and taking pics 2 hrs before the ceremony starts. The G and GMs will be coming in an hr before ceremony starts to take their pics. At that time I will be inside, hidden. No one, except my side of the family, is allowed inside the house.

Err…I’d probably say my house. If not just for the stress factor. The fact I have everything I could possibly need at my house plays into this.

I said get ready at home- you have all your stuff there and because of comfort!  However, I would also take into consideration proximity of your home/ your parents’ home.

The risk of bumping into guests is minimal— no one is going to be upset if they see you or any member of the wedding party with hair out of place or makeup not done yet.  As long as there’s enough privacy to be able to slip into the dress and an out-of-the-way place to actually sit and do makeup without interruption, I don’t see anything wrong with getting ready at the venue.  The out-of-the-way place can be something that you define, like a corner of the room you block off by hanging a clothesline and some fabric/curtains. You can even use bedsheets.
