I don’t particularly like air line halos with prong settings but I really like them with bezels like the ring you posted. It really adds to the vintage charm of that ring.

This style halo is also called a bezel halo setting. I personally never liked the look of them. Plus, it doesn’t allow much light to hit the little diamonds which means you won’t get as much sparkle.

A well cut diamond will still sparkle nicely in a bezel setting. So if this is the route you are going then make sure the diamond has excellent proportions.

That is a very beautiful ring! I had a halo and hated it so I’m biased. My diamond is round brilliant with an excellent cut and looked dull most of the time, just because halo’s are much harder to clean. Of course this might not bother you – I also didn’t like how big the halo made my ring, I felt like I was wearing a superbowl ring!

MissSaeyang916: One of the things I don’t like about my current setting is that it looks glittery to me. I know this is such a first world complaint, but I almost feel like it sparkles TOO much. I would honestly rather have step cut diamonds that have more surface area but aren’t as sparkly. And my current setting is set super low, it may as well be a bezel. You only see the table of the diamond in the setting anyway.
mrssloan2013: my round brilliant is an excellent cut, so I think it should be ok right? And I would want to make sure that metal was under the halo. I don’t think I would love it for my skin to show through the space?
IF I go this route, I would likely do baguettes down the sides and top and bottom and rounds in the corners. The other option I am trying to find examples of is to do engraving on the halo instead of diamonds. I like surface area of a larger setting, but I don’t like the glitter of the tiny diamonds. I want to make sure I get it right this time though! 😉

moderndaisy: I currently have a halo. I like the size of it, but I am not in LOVE with the style of it. So I am exploring my options. My ring always looks crazy shiny even when it’s dirty (to me). I cleaned it today and am shocked by how dirty it has gotten in just one month!

alabamagirl: then yes it will be just fine. I really love the idea of having engraving instead of diamonds on the halo, that would look gorgeous!

mrssloan2013: I am just having trouble visualizing and finding examples of what it would look like. I am keepinga list of things I like/don’t like about my current setting and what I like/don’t like about other rings I see. So there will likely be a million more questions!

My other big issue is finding rings like this to try On in real life!

I don’t have any personal experience with one, but I would imagine it would be difficult to keep clean. Love the look though.

MissSaeyang916: While some literature has said a bezel won’t allow as much light– that’s not exactly true. I asked my mom’s friend, who’s a jeweler about this- because I originally had an enclosed gallery bezel. There’s less stone visible- so you’re not going to get sparkles off the sides or bottom. But a well cut stone, bezel set- will sparkle just as well as a prong set.
I have a bezel set but the bottom of the stone is exposed.

womanofsubstance: Why do you think it would be harder to keep clean than any other style? I want to hear about all the down sides to this so I can make a better decision.
MrsEME: Does it matter if the bottom of the stone is exposed? Currently, mine is and it is crazy shiny. And I was actually thinking of enclosing it in my reset to make sure it is protected a little better?

Well, I think it would be more difficult because if the space wasn’t there, there would not be a collection of dirt. I dunno, that’s just my lazy sense of clean. 🙂

I don’t have one yet, but just orderedacz and silver version of this Beverly K ring from an eBay jeweler called Niki Gems. It’s a perfect example of an airline halo.
