I would just go into a store and ask to use their phone. If I wasn’t near a store or everything was closed then I would just ask a random person who looks friendly and not in a rush. I rarely have change on me and I think there’s maybe one payphone in our entire town so I would only use it as a last resort due to lack of accessibility.

We don’t really have pay phones here, the rare occassion we see one anywhere (I can only think of one off hand here) we are like “OMG look, it’s a pay phone!”.  And it’s $1.00 for three minutes but it’s also any call any where internationally.

We live in a good sized city but it’s still young enough that people care, so it’s super likely that you could easily borrow someone’s phone for a call.  So that’s what I’d do.  I’ve let someone use my phone now and then, though I’ll ask for and dial the number then give them the phone.

When I grew up pay phones mattered.   I mean we had PAGERS!  🙂  Even before pagers you had a quarter in your pocket just in case.  Then it was 35 cents … then cell phones came along and pay phones started disappearing.

I’d ask a stranger…but not gonna lie, I’d profile them first. Not gonna ask some skeevy looking man to use his phone if there’s a nice looking lady around.

@sweetchiquita12  I have let strangers use my phone before.  I stand close and watch them.  I’ve never had a problem, and it’s not like I can’t run after them if they run.  Is everyone immobile?  I find people ridiculous sometimes.

@sweetchiquita12:  I’d try to use a payphone first, then I’d probably ask a local business, last resort would be using a stranger’s cell..

I don’t know why anyone would bother a stranger to borrow their phone if there was a working pay phone nearby. If there’s no pay phone nearby then by all means, just ask a random person on the street or go into a shop and ask if they’ll let you make a call, but if you have the option to help yourself without bothering others, then that’s always the best choice, regardless of if it’s use of a phone, changing a flat tire, getting directions, or anything else.

I saw a payphone recently and it shocked me. I didn’t know they still existed. So, if I could find one, I’d use that. If not, definitely ask a store. If that was all closed then I’d ask a stranger if they could dial for me and put it on speaker phone. I’ve done that for people before because I don’t need people touching my phone.

I would use a stranger’s phone before a pay phone. Pay phones just gross me out for some reason, the 2 that are actually around anymore.

I guess I’d try to find a pay phone, but I rarely see those anymore so I doubt the chances are good. Then my next step would probably be to ask a business like a store, restaurant, hotel etc if I could make a local call.

I would be hesitant to ask a stranger because I know I wouldn’t want anyone using my phone. Forget about stealing it, who knows where that stranger’s hands have been or if they drop it and break it, etc.
