I didn’t really have any ideas as to what I wanted in a ring before we went shopping together other then that I for sure wanted a princess cut with a beautiful side view. I did not want a large ring, I wanted smaller and definitely not gaudy or anything.
The day we went to look at rings we went to a local jewelry shop first and I found a few that I liked. They were pretty and small, with intricate engraved bands with a small diamond in the center (I think the one I liked the most there was the one with a band wider than the tiny stone)
After that we decided to take a look at Kay Jewelers and when I saw her I knew she was the one I wanted. She was STUNNING and since I didn’t want to pressure Fiance into buying her because she was more expensive (but actually a wedding set) than the other options I tried to remain calm. But I couldn’t stop thinking about her. In fact I even brought Future Mother-In-Law to look at it at the mall after he bought the ring to propose. She knew the whole time and when I saw it missing I just though, “Oh well, someone just loves the beautiful ring as much as I do. It’s to be expected.”
I can’t even tell you how pumped I was when I saw HER in the box when he proposed. Really I would’ve been fine with any of the three I loved but this one, this one is the beauty I will never forget She was the one for me.
Did you have any of these moments when you went ring shopping?
Here she is:
ETA: I hope no one thinks that I was being offensive by stating small. I think this one is a lot larger than the others I was considering.

The ring I got was based more on what it represented than anything. We couldn’t afford any of the rings I wanted. I got the sensation of “the ring” as soon as I found it but it was wayyyy out of our price rang. My e-ring was under $200 (1/5 ct. solitare) and ended up breaking a month before the wedding. I have always wanted my dream ring… here she is 🙁
Oh, how I love thee

I went ring shopping with my Fiance a few months before we got engaged. We both picked out one ring. My had tons of diamonds all over it. His was more intricate design and unique. We both decided that we loved that one! Somewhere along the line he decided not to go with that one. I knew our trip to Shane Co. was just a “looksy”, so I didn’t expect him to stay with what we chose… plus I think he wouldn’t be able to live with himself if I helped pick out the ring. He is so stubborn.
Anyway, he proposed with a much better ring… and thus changed my mind 🙂

I could not stop thinking about it 😛

We went ring shopping about a year before he proposed. I gave him options, like I wanted yellow gold, a solitare setting, a thin band and a few diamond shapes I like (marquise, princess, round). I wanted him to make the decision on what ring to get. He ended up getting me two rings. One was marquise cut because that was one of the shapes I told him I liked and the other was a pear. (Which wasn’t one I saw in the store when we went ring shopping.) I ended up choosing the pear and he returned the other one.
So yeah, I never had my heart set on one. I’m not really that picky with jewelry. Worked out for me. The Darling Husband did a great job picking out my rings.

I went ring looking by myself, and then showed Fiance online things I liked. (He’s shy and hates sales people.) I never did find anything I was absolutely CRAZY about, and we decided to go the custom route.
Here’s where the story gets a little interesting…just a few weeks before he proposed, I decided I wanted to buy myself a new sapphire ring for my upcoming birthday. We had talked about what I wanted for an engagement ring, but I didn’t think it was coming for quite a while. Fiance went shopping with me–since he wasn’t buying it, the pressure from sales people was off! 😛 And while shopping with him, I fell in love with this ring as my “birthday ring”……and decided, so what if it was VERY similar to what we were discussing for an engagement ring? I didn’t think the ring was coming for a few more months, and I might change my mind a few more times. I loved the style of this ring, and it was a good price.
Just a few weeks later, my Fiance slipped this ring on my finger…
He was having it made at the time I got the birthday ring. Yeah, both have oval center sapphires and three round stones on the side. So what? I guess I know what I like! They’re both gorgeous and I love them. Whichever descendant of mine inherits the birthday ring has a quirky little story to go with it!

I couldn’t choose just one ring, and I didn’t want to. I wanted him to pick the ring for me. So I chose 3 for him to pick from, and also designed a custom ring. He’s talked about customizing one of the rings I chose, which I think is so cute of him! Anyway, it’s not on my finger just yet but I know it’ll be perfect when it is!
