@Nona99: YES!! The aquarium will be amazing!! Heck, I considered (at an early stage of wedding planning) having our wedding reception at the aquarium. I was 9 when my parents rented out an ice rink for my birthday party and it was amazing. I can only imagine how much fun a night at the aquarium will be!
And I, too, wish I were your niece. Keep on being awesome!

I love the aquarium idea. When I was about 11 we had a sleep over in our community center and it was awesome. We played group hide-n-seek and stayed up all night in the building…it was a great time.

@Nona99: Do you live in Denver or would it be a long drive? Logistically it might be hard to get everyone there. However, this definitely sounds like a better option to me than the pretty princess party. What kind of sleeping arrangements do they offer and would you need to bring additional chaperones? Also, would the aquarium allow you to bring in an outside caterer?

O.O aquarium sleepover? I want to do that. Petting sting rays with Fiance was the best date I’ve ever been on it was so much fun. No one is too cool for sharks, and turtles, and stingrays, and seahorses and…I could go on and on.

@Nona99: We have a thing like that here and it has been a huge hit with 6-8 years olds. 11 is…er…a little old. My daughter is 11 and she wouldn’t want anything to do with that. I guess it depends on the 11 y.o. in question. What my 11 year old would love is something like going to a ceramic studio and painting something and getting it glazed. We did that for Girl’s Day (my own invented holiday) one year. Or jewelry making, we have a Potomac Bead Co. here, they do parties.

@Nona99: I think without the dressing up, I would have loved it! But I’ve never been into dressing up. Theres places like that here and they always seem to be a blast, but I only know people with girls 8 and under. =/

I would’ve loved this at any age!!! Even 15.

Umm, where is this place, and can I come to the party!?!
Hosestly though, while it sounds like SO much fun to me now, I think when I was 11, I would think I was too cool for something like that. If it was more “model photo shoot” and less “princess party” then I think I would be all over it because 11 year olds think they are sooo mature.

@hotpinkbride: Yeah, we’re local…so its not like she’d invite anyone that didn’t already live here…the chaperones are admitted for free and its a minimum of five kids….I would imagine you make like a camp out and bring your bag and air mattress for the night…I can also book an animal encounter OR mermaid visit if I’m so inclined, but I’ve heard through the grapevine that the mermaids there are kid of bitchy…

The Denver Aquarium is awesome! Great idea!

@Nona99: Mermaid encounter? BITCHY mermaid encounter? Nah… she’s better off with the sting rays.
I think the aquarium is awesome. It works for both young-11 and I’m-too-old-for-this-shit-11. Such a tough age!

@Nona99: Sounds cool. Too bad the mermaids are bitchy!

@Nona99: My daughter and her friends would *flip* over sleeping at the aquarium. This idea wins, hands down!

I would have *loved* that. You are an amazing aunt!
