I would think that the bride should offer to pay for the hair and makeup if she wants it to be professionally done. It is the generous thing to do (I paid for the hair and makeup for everybody).

I’ve done my sister in laws hair for a wedding.  And it came out really good.  I’m not trying to toot my own horn here.  I was in cosmetology just never finished it due to becoming a mom.  So if the option is open for a bridesmaid to do what she wants with her hair, she could do it herself or have a friend or family member help.  As long as the options are open for bridesmaid to chose, I don’t think its that bad of idea.  But if you are or she is requiring a certain hairstyle that needs to match everyone, id say the bride should pay for it.

I would do it bc if I wasnt close to bride I wouldn’t be in the wedding.  I would also do it bc i would rant to look my best if I’m going not be standing in a wedding. But it is not polite to ask someone to have hair done unless you are paying for it. I made sure I found cheapest possible stylist who still did fabulous work so that cost was reasonable.  I simply asked BMs if they wanted service before booking.  I paid for makeup sincr it was more expensive and asked girls cover hair , everyone wanted hair  and was happy w arrangement. Couldn’t afford both bc I went crazy on gifts

I would say okay.  All of my bridesmaids had theirs done and no one complained.  I also found a girl (professional) to do everyones for 30$ each, so it wasn’t too pricey.

@chelseakayd:  I’d think that’s what I signed up for when I agreed to be a bridesmaid.

@chelseakayd:  I would be doing that anyway, but I would be using my own stylist, not one of the bride’s choosing.

I personally wouldn’t care, but I know a lot of girls would.

I asked my bridesmaids to cover hair if they wanted it (I’m paying for the makeup), they were fine with it – at least they said they were.

I have hair/makeup artists coming to the hotel where we’ll get ready.  I let everyone know that they can do whatever they want as far as getting those things done professionally.  All of the girls are choosing to get their hair done, and half are getting makeup done.  They are paying for whatever they are choosing.

Earlier this summer I was a Bridesmaid or Best Man in a friend’s wedding, and she did something similar… pro hair optional, we paid for it if we wanted it.  4 of 5 of us chose to do it.  It was totally fine with me.

I will disagree with the majority. If the bride insists that my hair be done, she should pay.

ETA: I would pay it though, and not cause trouble

The nice thing would have been for the bride to pay if she is requesting it be professionally done. I paid for all my bridesmaids hair and makeup.

I would pay though, because I can’t do my own hair in an updo.

If it is optional, I think it is ok for bridesmaids to cover their own.  Even if it is mandatory, it is nice for the bride to cover the cost but isn’t the end of the world to me is she doesn’t.  If a bride told me to do whatever I want with my hair, I would still pay to get it done because I am useless at styling my own hair.

@Laurenplusalex:  +1, my BMs only paid for their plane ticket
