They’re also talking about banning alcohol.

Have to say the Maldives have never appealed to me though.

yeah it’s quite interesting to see how this will affect the resorts.  I am glad I went before the ban and had a massage on the Isaland, but a no alcohol rule would really kill it along with their whole economy since 99% of it is tourism.  Stupid stupid people.

You might want to consider Koh Lipe. It’s a small little island in Thailand, very beautiful and not too expensive. Has a wide range of accommodation choices. I went there for Christmas recently with my boyfriend and loved it. We are going again this year.

Wow, thanks for sharing. Have always wanted to go, but had no idea the religious restrictions.

That was meant to say that I’m glad to see someone recommending Koh Lipe as we’re spending part of our honeymoon there.

@SpecialSundae: omg are you!? thats amazing. where are you guys staying? not many people know about it yet so that makes it even more special.

It’s about 3 hours driving from Penang, where I am from. So we drove there after my boyfriend arrived and spent the night in Pak Barra before taking the ferry to Lipe the next morning. We spent 4 days 3 nights there, wish it could be longer!!!

He proposed on Christmas Eve while we were out in the water. Waded through the knee high water during low tide to look at fish and corals and he popped the question just as we were about to reach this big rock in the middle of the sea. I was stoked. Lipe is beautiful and we would definitely be back.  if you wanna know about anything just ask away, i hope i can help 🙂

Tioman Island is nice too. Nicer beach I think, but its all a matter of preference.

@dominodeer: We’re staying at Serendipity resort. We were booked into the big Lebowski for three nights but it burned down. The original plan was to spend a couple of nights on Penang or Langkawi first, but we’re now seriously considering flying straight from KL to Hat Yai and arranging a pick-up. That way we could spend 5 or 6 nights there.

What would you recommend doing?
