I just got a new job and I’m totally loving it. I’m still observing what the norm is at work.
I didn’t expect it to be 40hr/wk since that isn’t the nature of my work. However, I just calculated that I worked 60hrs this week (11hr/d M-F and 5hr today) and that was about the norm for my new colleagues. Not to mention my commute is 45 min each way. Also spent many more hours at home working and learning on my own.
I don’t mind it, the time at work passes quickly and I am totally loving it so far but I was wondering how others manage the little amount of time outside of work! I’m thinking we need to do Dream Dinners, maybe even outsource house cleaning later on, and call that an expense for our careers.

Both Darling Husband and I work more than 50 hours per week. We have a cleaning lady come and do the big cleaning jobs. We just do dishes, trash, and the day to do tiddying up. During the week we try to make our meals fast. If we cook we make enough for the next day. If we don’t feel like cooking we do something pre made from trader joe’s. We try to get our errands done after work so our weekends are free for enjoyable activities. Any phone errands that need to be done I do during the commute, (and that’s when I talk on the phone with my friends and family as well). Truth is I’ve always worked these kind of hours so it’s just the way it is now. I don’t feel like I don’t have enough time. You just get used to it.

With commute we probably work the same amount. You kind of get used to it I guess…
