    How much was the bill and how much damage did his dog do?

    Idk just do what you feel is right.  I think I would just pay for it myself, but I think it could go either way, especially since he gave you his address.

    If the dog did serious damage then I’d definitely send them the bill.  If it was a minor thing that probably would have healed without the trip to the vet (my dog has been bitten twice bo other dogs, both drew blood, neither was serious enough to warrant a vet visit) then I’d pay it myself.

    Why did you take him to the vet? Was his ear half off? Personally i wouldn’t have taken him to the vet unless he needed stitches or something and i wouldn’t send the bill.

    Dogs get into moods and sometimes they dont get along. Thats the risk you take.

    @Swizzle:  I agree with this.

    I would pay my own vet bill.

    It’s my understanding that owners are responsible for their pets’ actions. I don’t know that <$100 would be worth the headache it would cause.

    If the other dog has attacked your dog, then yes I would say send the bill but if it was just playing that went a little too far, no bill.

    (My opinion is based on: I have 3 dogs and they love to play. When they get really into it, they can draw blood with each other. Um, also, one of my dogs has attacked another dog. Trust me, the experience of that- you would know without a doubt whether to send the bill)

    In your position, I’d pay it myself, since I made the active decision to “let them play.” Even if the other owner ‘encouraged’ it, I hypothetically was in full agreement, and thus accept any responsibility to circumstances resulting in my decision to let my dog socialize. After all, I have the option to keep walking, and keep my little dog in my control, and out of reach of other dogs.  If I choose not to, I pay the bill.

     I agree with  @BrookieCookie9.

    If it’s just a $99 play injury, I would chalk it up to normal hazards of dog interaction. If they other dog had maliciously attacked, that’s a different story.

    I think if I were you I would pay the bill (if you haven’t already) and then send a copy to the guy whose dog bit yours with a little note that said something like, “Hi, remember me? My dog required a vet visit due to your dog’s bite and I was hoping you’d reimburse me. Here’s my address and email if you have any questions.” And then I’d be thrilled if he paid for all or half of the bill, and I wouldn’t do anything if I never heard from him again.

    If my dog behaved badly, resulting in another dogs’ injury, then yes I’d offer to pay the vet bill. However if the other dog was provoking him/her, or they had just been playing, then I would not think it was my responsibility.
