Check out The Brides Project!!!
It’s a volunteer-run charity that sells donated dresses, with all proceeds going to cancer research! How amazing is that?
I went there last weekend, and had just an absolutely incredible experience. It’s located in an old house, so unless you know where you’re going you’d probably never ever just ‘come across it’, lol! They have hundreds of dresses, all organized by approximate size (below 8, and above 10) and in a rediculously huge wonderful range of styles and designers. They have names like Maggie Sottero and Mikaella for around $600, as well as high end designers (Vera Wang, etc.) but I’m not sure what that price range was because I didn’t even look!
What I liked most is how relaxed the atmosphere was. It’s all self-serve, so bring your mom or Maid/Matron of Honor to help you find and try on the dresses. There were no sales consultant trying to talk you into buying the dress, no restriction on photographs taken, no pressure!! It was honestly one of the most special parts of wedding planning so far, because it was just me and my mom in the dressing room (read: an old bedroom or master-bathroom!), and racks of beautiful, high end, well priced dresses 🙂
Needless to say, I bought a dress!! But not just “a” dress – it’s MY dress, my beloved Maggie Sottero gown, accompanied by a note from the former bride, and an amazing feeling of actually ‘giving back’ since the profit goes to such a good cause!! I’ll write a detailed “found my dress!” recap soon, but I just had to get this out there so that other brides can check this place out too!!!
