People can say the most hurtful, ignorant things and don’t even realize the damaging effects their words have.  Shame on them for being insensitive and ill-mannered.  First of all, it DOES look gorgeous on your hand and she must be completely clueless if she thinks diamonds can’t be cut that shape.  That makes me embarrassed for her…

Also, I know how you feel about getting looks and hearing hurtful things during what should be the happiest time of your life.  My husband and I were engaged for 5 weeks.  Yep, that’s right. I happen to be one of the most impatient people on the planet and so I didn’t even want to wait for a ring.  That being said, we got our parent’s blessing and I planned a wedding in a month and waited until one month after our wedding to get my “engagement ring” (which is completely perfect in every way) and I couldn’t be happier about any of it.  People who believe that everyone should follow tradition and convention can kiss my ass.  I am married to the most wonderful man in the world and we have started a wonderful life together, but if I had listened to so many others, I would probably be sitting on my couch alone typing this, rather than sitting next to my snoring husband : )

Congratulations to you!!!

@minipenguin:  Good thing she’s an old friend, huh ๐Ÿ˜›

Awe ๐Ÿ™ Really though I’m also looking everywhere for ideas so if someone said something like that I’d take it personally/ be angry. A symbol of one’s love is not to be criticized!

Ha ha very! My likes all over the place, but we decided getting wedding bands first then e ring which I like since it’ll show we’reboth taken and I’ll have more time to look more. I never ever thought I’d be a solitaire girl, but then I stumbled upon lab created blue diamonds and fell in love! For our budget my options would be ornate setting with blue sapphire or solitaire with fishtail prongs and blue diamond… definitely leaning towards latter!

Sorry for rambling, I just get excited ๐Ÿ˜‰

@minipenguin:  Oh Fiance hates fancy shapes so oval is a good compromise, I still want a pear though ๐Ÿ™‚ Fancy FTW!

@minipenguin:  that’s pure jealousy, plain and simple. Marquise is such a classic shape (beautiful ring btw). Just laugh it off. She’s so stupid that’s the best she could come up with.

When we first talked Engagement, Mr TTR said he liked Marquis Diamonds… and initially I thought that was the way we’d go (in that I very much saw MY ERing as HIS ERing too).

But as much as I LOVE them (and yours is STUNNING)… I am hard on my hands… so I was pretty sure that a Marquis Solitaire would take a real beating (get caught on stuff etc)… so I told him as much as I liked them, it sadly wasn’t gonna work for me… and that we should go with a different type of setting.

In the end we got a ring that is very unique (haven’t seen another like it).  It is more like a cocktail ring (lots of little diamonds)… and then a feature diamond.  I wanted the cocktail look, he wanted a feature diamond (said it wasn’t an ERing without a feature stone).  So I have something that we both L♥VE it… lol, I often refer to it as OUR Engagement Ring.
