Any bees here have IKEA kitchen cabinets? Did you have them installed by Traemand (IKEA’s installers) or have a general contractor/other installer put them in? Did you install them yourself, and if so, are you/your spose in the home improvement industry? Trying to figure out what to do, so any experience, advice or tips is much appreciated. Thanks!

We have IKEA cabinetry but had it installed by a general contractor. We’re quite happy with it, actually happier than we thought we would be as I had first thought IKEA cabinets were going to be flimsy junk like their furniture. One advantage to having a general contractor do it is that, assuming he/she has the skill, they can be a lot more creative with how the components come together, and re-fabricate cabinets and such using IKEA’s cabinet panels but trimming or adjusting them, which I don’t believe IKEA’s own installers will do.
We did a full on gut-and-rebuild of our kitchen, gutted down to the brick, so if you are not going as extreme, then the IKEA installers or even DIY might be fine for you. Once the frames are up, it’s actually quite easy to mount the cabinetry.

We have neighbors down the street who got IKEA cabinets recently. They road tripped to the Charlotte IKEA and brought the cabinets back here to install. They installed the cabinets themselves because they were redoing the rest of the kitchen at the same time. This was their first renovation project, so they did not have a ton of DIY experience. It was a little bit of a struggle, according to them, but they eventually got them installed correctly. I would at least get quotes from IKEA or a general contractor to see what the cost difference would be like.

We have Ikea kitchen cabinets and installed them ourselves. It’s not that difficult to do; i think those kind of things are more a matter of motivation and time. You can’t just slap them together within an hour, like a Billy bookshelf 🙂
This is our kitchen:
Everything you see was planned and assembled by us ( except for the cooktop- we had an electrician do that).
If i remember correctly, it took two full days.
