Cem0930:  I had an Ikea mattress in college and it was AWFUL…sagged in the middle after less than 6 months and had all sorts of lumps and bumps. It was a lot cheaper than the one you are talking about, though…and like you said, they actually exchanged it for a nicer one when I called them to complain! So my feelings are mixed…$1000 sounds like a lot to spend for an Ikea mattress, though. And, again, like you said, you wouldn’t have anything to trade up to. I say that if this is your every day mattress, go for something with a better reputation for quality and durability!

I don’t have the mattress you are looking at, but another foam mattress from Ikea.  I’ve had it for about 4 years now and I am still happy with it.  It has held up well and is still very comfy.

We have an ikea mattress. we’ve had it for about 4 months now and we love it! We have a half and half.  The top is memory foam but the bottom is springs like a regular mattress.  We havent had any problems with it and we sleep so well.  The only thing was the mattress was labeled “plush” and our matress definitely isn’t plush but it isnt firm either it’s an in between.  We spoke with other people who have the memory foam mattress and we’ve heard that it takes time for them to soften and they will never soften like a pillow top but will get much softer.  Lots of people say memory foam is so hot,  we haven’t found that to be the case either.  Good luck!

Our mattress is new so I can’t speak to durability, but we got a Matrand memory foam king and it is beyond heaven. I am finally waking up without headaches, which I haven’t since I was only a kid!!

We made this extra trip to get the mattress before the frame to let it air out before sleeping on it, thinking it would have a chemical smell to it…but it didn’t! I was happily surprised by that, as my $200 memory foam pillow from Sleep Country reeked for a few weeks.

We thought about ikea for our mattress. I noticed the ones in the store had a distinct smell to them, kind of like very cheap lipstick (but much stronger.) The lady in the store said the smell goes away after a month and that prompted me to ask about their return policy in case the smell never disappeared. I was not happy with their answer so we decided to not buy from there.

Cem0930:  I have an ikea matress and I hate it. But it’s also not the $1000 mattress, it’s much cheaper and extremely uncomfortable. I have heard good things about the more expensive ikea matresses though.

I had an Ikea mattress that I slept on nightly from 2004 to 2011.  I thought it was fine, but I like a firm mattress.  My husband said it was uncomfortable.  When my parents visit, that’s the bed they use, and they say it’s fine.

It depends on what you like.  If you really want a nice mattress, a lot of places have financing plans that aren’t bad — 0% for some huge number of months.  Just pay it off in that time.

turnanewleaf:  Thanks for the info. Did you buy the medium firm or the firm matrand mattress? Went to IKEA today to test both out and I can’t decide on the firmness level. Both were very comfortable though. Thanks, Daniel

I find that IKEA’s more expensive items tend to be great. I don’t trust their bedroom sets though.

We have a bookshelf from IKEA that we bought when we got married and it is still fine after nearly five years.

We’ve had a latex mattress from ikea for over a year now and it’s damn comfy I love it! Plus I found a memory foam topper from groupon that makes it even cozier! I say maybe try getting a cheaper one and if you love it trade it in for the 1000 one 🙂
